Well I thought I\'d post this as this subject tends to appear often on these forums.

Bought a Greddy Elbow for the FD, but as some of you will know it does not feature the hose take off to the UIM.

So I\'ve done this mod myself and thought I\'d post some pics in case it\'s of use to anyone thinking of doing the same.

This is a fairly new item made by Revotec, they are designed for hose takeoffs in water hoses but after having spoke to the sales guy at the Autosport show you can also use them on solid surfaces as well. As the Greddy Elbow has a flat section on the back, I thought this would be perfect for the job.

Ordered from Demon Tweeks

I Ordered the 16mm ID Version.

The only thing I added, is an extra O-Ring to seal from both sides.

Right all I then did was to drill a small hole in the right place on the back of the elbow, thankfully there is a small flat area where the adaptor will sit nicely. So I started by marking with a marker whereabouts the middle line was and wanted the hole to be. Started with a small drillbit first and worked upto the correct size to achieve a good fit.

Used some wet n dry to remove the burr from the inside of the hole that I\'d drilled and then placed the first part of the adaptor in with one o-ring on the inside.

Then I placed the extra O-Ring on the outside thread, placed the collar over it and screwed the Barbed take-off onto the thread, tightened the fitting with a spanner to get a good seal (but not too much it is aluminium). Job done!

Lastly a nice 16mm Samco hose, and polished hose clamp I got from a company called Hoselocks in the US, looks pretty good I think.

Should fit with the standard black hose (as it\'s the same diameter) but I haven\'t tried it.

But at least this version doesn\'t require lots of drilling and tapping that the other hose takeoffs require.

Chapter Two is next week pics of me doing the downpipe! lol

To be honest I\'m not 100% sure mate! lol

I guess I\'m from from the school of thought that Mazda put it there for a reason on the original plastic elbow (the pipe then feeds into the back of the UIM), so I wanted to keep it.

Most owners just blank the pipe off or put a small K&N filter on the end of it, but I understand that can lead to oil spewing all down the back of the engine bulkhead, so I guess it could be a breather hose of some kind.

Thanks for the nice comments though.

Is this just on certain models as my car had the original plastic elbow and did not have this, mine was a 92 type X import

Would be nice to mount a air temp gauge, water injection or extra injector though.

Mazda did a lot of strange things whilst building these car cars take the rats nest for one, why o why, half of mines ripped out now and still works fine :)

good job by the way looks the part

cheers

I think it\'s something Jap model cars didn\'t use, maybe its only used on UK ones or something? Neither of my FDs had a hose there, just a rubber bung held on with a spring-clip. That polished hose clamp fitting you\'ve found there looks a proper nice bit of kit, and it\'s nice to see those Revotec hose spigots work well, I thought they looked like a good design.

sickboy2345

on some setups people have a blov off plugged in there:

my elbow is just blanked off

is it not something that is used on a auto model? or in the american left handers?

EGR on the UK and US models isn\'t it?

I used one of them for the vacuum take off for the single turbo. Just needed to cut a hole in the front of the filter and install. Bought it from Merlin motorsport ! Saved some headaches making a vac pickup.
