About mixing/matching rubber:  this is the reason i am replacing both fronts at the same time.  Ideally, i would replace all four - but i\'m too broke, and i don\'t want to spend a month driving on the space-saver wheel...

Currently, I have \'Federal SuperSpeed\' tyres - which i have never heard of - on all four^H^H^H^H Three corners.

Hopefully, the fact that i drive like my grandad in the wet will prevent incidents caused by mis-matched rubber.

Its front to rear as well as side to side I was really refering to.  Different levels of grip can create some interesting moments.

For the cost of 4 tyres compared to 2, the extra certainly out weighs the excess on the insurance policy if it all goes wrong.  Especially if you are putting good tyres on the front and keeping the super crap tyres on the back.

Just to say - got the tyre shop to test-fit a 235/40 on the front (which should have fitted i thought) - and it couldn\'t go lock to lock.

However, they said there should be no probs with the 225/40, so i get them fitted tomorrow...

also had to fork out for a new set of locking nuts, as I don\'t have the key to the current set (it\'s nowhere in the car :reallymad )
