what is the size of the standard steering wheels? i am a big lump and just about fit in  my rx, so i was going to give myself a little extra leg room by getting a smaller steering wheel. any other ideas of making a little bit more room with taking 6 inches off the bottem of my legs lol:3Confused

I have same problem mate

I went for a Sparco 320mm steering wheel, 30mm spacer and a new seat. Works for me and im 6\'4

im 6\'4 as well is the 320mm wheel smaller than the standard one and what is the spacer for? sorry i aint the brightest lol

AshRX

yeah a lot smaller. The spacer brings the wheel closer to you so clears your knees when changing gears. Thats the problem i had of changing gear and my left knee hitting or rubbing against the steering wheel

yeah i got the same prob. when i push the clutch down i get a slight wobble coz my knee is against the wheel dont want this when i am going fast. thanks for the help. i went to japfeast on the weekend and after seeing someone taking the wheel i realised how much room that could give me for getting in and out.

Another option (which i\'ve had done) is to get a pair of british-spec seat runners - they allow the seat to go back about another 6 inches over the jap-spec ones.  (my drivers seat is now pushing back into the rear seats)

That said, i think i need to investigate getting a spacer for the wheel - didn\'t realise you could get them :D

I\'ve got one of these fitted between the wheel and boss on my FD, like Ash said, gives loads more leg room and has the bonus of putting the wheel closer to you, better for control and reaction because your arms are slightly bent, ie relaxed! You can also get OMP ones that are very similar to the Sparco but adjust a few cms as well. More expensive, though

rotechniks ;)

They found me some second hand ones.  Alternatively, you can get them from Mazda - but they aren\'t cheep!

Get a momo (or similar make) snap-off boss when you buy youre smaller wheel.  They are spaced further out from the dash and allow you to remove the wheel from the car which makes it easier to get out and harder to steal!

Oh, a D shaped steering wheel may help you even more (flat on the bottom).

Im a short-arse tho so cant give too many sympathies, lol! ;)

I just measured a standard wheel at 365mm.
If you have a smaller wheel is does blank off the indicator repeaters if you sit high in the car. You have to lean the seat right back to see them.
I went from small wheel to standard size \'cos of this.

Or as another alternative, you could mod the OEM runners: http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47312&highlight=

I\'m about to change my wheel, is there anything I should know about the process - is it difficult to remove the original?
