I had a oil drain pipe that was not up to the job unfortunately, as it was a lovely piece of kit. However, i did not know whether it would be good enough so started the car. It was evident pretty much straight away that it was not good enough, as clouds of smoke came out the exhaust. I thought i\'d let it run for a bit, just in case it was some oil somewhere else in the system that would clear. After a while smoke started coming out from around the turbo, so I very quickly realised that the oil drain was not good enough, and I switched the engine off.

Next i tried to modify the oil drain slightly, and it improved, but was still not good enough with lots of smoke coming out. During the improvement process I had to take the turbo off and the downpipe off. When doing this there was absolutely LOADS of oil in the exhaust, and even in the compressor housing of the turbo from where it got forced out past the turbo oil seals. So, had to go back to my original oil drain setup.

This has now improved things A LOT! But there is still whisps off blue smoke coming out of the exhasut, and still a bit coming out from the front of the turbo. I\'m wondering what peoples opinions are on whether I have shafted my oil seals, or is this more likely just the remnants of the oil still in the system I know oil takes a long, long time to burn off. There\'s no more oil smoke coming from around the turbo in the engine bay.

I haven\'t had the chance to drive it since it started, as the MoT has run out. Got this on saturday.

Cheers

Cool, cheers for putting my mind at rest.

I would say if you\'ve pushed that much through the seals they probably need replacing.

nikp

Well, guess time will tell.

you probably have a lot of oil residue in the exhaust itself, I had a kink in my oil drain originally when I first installed a single years ago which gave exactly the same symptoms, once I fixed the oil drain it smoked a little until I gave a good long run and no more oil smoke.

Well, she gets a good run tomorrow up to Reading, so hopefully we\'ll know then. The amount of smoke coming out is not very much any more, so hopefully it\'s just the residue.

Update: had a couple of very long runs over the weekend: one to the mot in reading and one to brooklands and the smoke has now gone! :D
