going to be changing the clutch soon and ive already got a act 6 puck clutch to go on, is it worth spending out on a light weight flywheel and counterweight aswell.
anyone who has changed there flywheel from standard noticed much difference?

im a bit skint at mo so if i am going to get a flywheel aswell might be a little longer before the car is back on the road so is it worth the wait

I did a flywheel on my 8, and it made a much bigger diference than I thought it would.

No idea what it would be like on a 7, but I assume it would be a good idea, as getting the revs up fast is the idea...

Anything taking weight off the crank is good, especially in a rotary, but if you do then don\'t expect it to be as drivable, its a bit like race clutches or triple plate clutches, really really good, but reduces the drivability if you go too far.

Red and Single

Basically the revs will rise and lower much quicker, but the lost enertia makes it a pig to pull away. Personally for a street driven car I\'d save your money.

I have a lightweight flywheel on my fd.....but i\'ve always had it. So don\'t know what it\'s like with standard flywheel! So not much help really! :p

chrisJDM

i think i might just give it a miss for now, get the clutch and turbo fitted and get the bad boy back on the road :)

nikp

Don\'t forget that single turbo! ;)

chrisJDM

yep :)  just need to find a day when dave is free to come down, busy half way through fitting a kitchen at mo i think

nikp

Fitting the turbo is not really the difficult bit....it\'s removing the twin pack that\'s fiddly.

chrisJDM

should be fun, ive talked to dave about it and we are going to remove the engine, take of the twins, fit the single and also change the clutch as it needs changing and ive got a Act 6 Puck ready to go on

for me there were no driveability issues at all..

It was a 100% improvement, especially pulling away from standing when bogging was totally eliminated

We recently fitted an Exedy light flywheel to an RX-8 with a standard style clutch and I found the real benefit was that because there was less inertia the engine revs fell away quicker and allowed the next gear up to be picked up quicker and smoother.

Also unlike "race style" clutches with super light flywheels that can become a bit like an on-off switch the car was still very drivable needing only a couple of hundred revs more over a standard flywheel to ensure a smooth pull away :)

We have an Exedy flywheel on the shelf to fit your car or an RX-8 and if you want it we will take £50 less than you see on this link, O\' yes and we can supply your new counterweight that would be required as well

Hope this helps
