I\'m delighted to say I am now the proud owner of my very first RX-7, a black 1984 FB. I\'ll be posting some pics and info soon, but in the meantime I wondered what exhausts you guys would recommend?

Mine has a large single-exit jobby, and while it sounds quite menacing it\'s a little bit OTT for me. I was wondering if it\'s possible to get a standard-ish replacement, and how I\'d go about it? Alternatively, can anyone point me in the right direction for an after-market exhaust that exaggerates the lovely rotary sound without being excessively boomy?

Thanks everyone!

Rotechniks do a good stainless steel system, manifold to twin tailpipe for approx £400 fitted.
Has your car got the bodykit on it,as there was one recently advertised which matches your description?

Well done for getting your first FD....and may I say....bout time too!!

Have a look at the exhausts we do, they arent the cheapest, but they are rather nice, and sound good too!  They are repackable so you can change the noise to suit!!

If you are after a nice exhaust for an 1st gen you can\'t go wrong with the Janspeed system. I\'ve had that on two of the FBs I\'ve owned and it has been a nice free flowing exhaust which isn\'t loud or offensive.

Greetings mate.
You\'ve probably got enough good advice above but we (missus and me - she drives, I mend), run on a \'Double S\' stainless steel system that I fitted after breaking down a scrapper. Nice and quiet. Double S are somewhere in West Country - on t\'internet.

Wow, thanks so much for all the advice everyone! Lots of food for thought! I\'ll be looking into options from Rotechniks, Double S and Janspeed in the near future. Unfortunately I have a rather more pressing issue to rectify first, which is a hole in the fuel tank. :-( There will be another topic about that up soon!

Yes, I have been a professional lurker for a long long time now, but my desire to own a rotary hasn\'t diminished. A mortgage (and some sage advice) prevented me from getting an FD, but I think this little FB will make for a perfect starting point in the wonderful world of rotaries!

Ben, it has been a long time, hasn\'t it?! I hope you\'re well, be good to catch up some time - maybe I\'ll bring the FB down to meet you! :-)

Mark, yes - that is exactly the one. It\'s really a lovely car, I\'m planning to make a couple of slight changes but overall I\'m delighted with it. I\'d be very interested in hearing your thoughts on it, I believe it was rebuilt @ Rotechniks in 2002, some 16,000 miles ago, and have a LOT of service history (including the original Mazda book complete with loads of stamps!) but I\'d love to hear your opinion! One thing, I tried to measure the oil after a little drive on Sunday, but it seemed to be completely empty. Obviously I was very alarmed at this, and immediately put some oil in. However, after checking again (several times) there was still no change in the level. Is it best to check the level from cold or am I doing something else wrong?

Thanks again for the advice guys!

Must be done cold. Level is very important as you will know that these engines use oil deliberately. I always check dip stick at least weekly and before any longish run. (We don\'t do many miles).
