My fd pulls like it has some chili in its asss, but then after 5000rpm it somehow feels to be waiting for something or so. the revs go up, but it doesn\'t kick like it does at low revs. like 2nd gear just under 3000....floor it and it throws the rear like nothing else. if i floor it on speed, like 40ish km/h it pulls but then it calms down to the high revs (above 5k or so) the revs don\'t pick up to the red line as i would think.  is there an easy way to see if there is that non-sequential mod done or so? i haven\'t yet fitted a boost gauge tho. i have the 2 cats in plce with all the heat shields etc, so i would think the exhaust is very standard. eventho the rear box is mazdaspeed intem. also, the airfilter is std.

First thing i would do is try changing the spark plugs. Obviously the pull should be better when the second turbo kicks in at 4000rpm. And a slight tail off as you near the redline.

if u had the non-seq mod bud it wouldnt kick in till 3500rpm, id say u have a vac leak or a solonoid prob on the 2nd tubby :) should pull like a train all the way up lol.. it will calm down abit but not at 5krpm..

aha ok. my friend is coming up with a gauge and we\'ll test drive her tonight. how can i tell if there is some solenoid problem? vacuum problem means checking all the hoses i suppose

interloper393

yip lol, prob the easyest way is to buy new checkvalves and replace the whole rats nest, if you do 1 hose at a time its a doddle, just takes a while :) ..

crap he didn\'t fin a gauge. need to go and buy one tomorrow then. damn. do 6you happen to have  picture of this rats nest as i think i\'m not sure what you guys mean by that. (lots of hoses yes, but  where) i can see soem vacuum hoses under the airfilter box hoses, but not a major bunch of them anywhere. all i see at the drivers side when i pop up the hood is some solenoids i think, and 2 of those brown valves.

if you remove the plenum, top middle of the engine as you look at it, its underneath it.. looks like this lol

but mines a 97 so iv got alor less then pre 96 cars..

can you hear the car hissing when the bonnets open and your reving it?

To remove the plenum you`l have to remove the intercooler elbow, throttle body then the plenum.. o its fun :)

ok heres the plenum... iv ripped all the nest out n went non-seq. see how empty it looks :D
I know how dawnting these cars can be but to be honest there not that bad, the more you work on them the easyer they become.

i think no actually. the car doesn\'t idle 100% i think. it goes between 800 and 900 like burr burr burrr, but otherwise it goes 100%. smooth when i poush the pedal etc. I\'m annoyed because i can\'t really tell what is what when i look at the things under the bonnet. i knew every damn bit of my charade GTti and it was so nice to work on it as you always knew what to do and what was what. I suppose those 2 brown valves are some oem by-pass valves or so as they go to the airbox. then there is those 3 black boxes (solenoids?) next to them that i can\'t identify.

this is what i mean when i say that the vacuum diagrams are out of order. the lines seem to be layed in different way than they are in  the car.

Are those valves called charge relief valve and air bypass valve, those two brown ones close to the airbox? Secondly, all those actuators mess my head totally which one is actually the "real wastegate actuator"? and what\'s the pourpose of the rest and in which order do they work?

I\'m trying to get a big picture of the system from the beginning of the boost by the first turbo, to the and of revs with the 2nd

interloper393

if yer idles hunting from 800 to 900 then you have a vac leak somewhere..

yeah the 2 brown ones are the charge releif valves.

does this actually mean that it\'s possible that it\'s making all this happen. i.e. loosing power at top end? any suggestions where to start looking?

interloper393

yeah bud, if theres a leak then your loosing wonderful boost lol.. first id check all your intercooler pipes are nice and tight, then check the turbo hoses that you cn see, then its plenum off time, 90% of the time its under the plenum :S

need to get some sort of leak test stuff to see it. the car seems very standard. evntho it has a turbo timer and i just found a nice hole for a boost gauge. maybe it had one once. shame that i don\'t really know the history of it as it\'s a fresh import and i\'m the first owner of it
