I did search, but couldnt find anything.

I am just about to fit a HKS downpipe after finally getting the stock unit off this afternoon. I intend to wrap the HKS unit, but wondered if I need to bother refitting the heatshields or not as they were a PITA to get off and can only imagine they will be as much fun to get back on.

Thanks for any help.

Come on guys somebody with an aftermarket downpipe must be able to help.

I\'m not going to bother, predominantly for the pain reason :D
However, having been out in a car with a wrapped manifold and downpipe, then having a friend force me to touch the outer of the manifold immediately after stopping, I really can\'t see how much they are needed if the pipe is properly wrapped :) It was practically cool to the touch.

What wrap are you using, btw? Silica based or ceramic?

If the wraps works that well then i wouldnt bother with the shield, with out the shield you`ll get better air flow around the manifold as well so that a help cool it a little more?

Im going to be using this stuff.

Plus the overspray to stop the wrap turning to mush if it gets wet.

Only bit that concerns me is the turbo end as due to the shape you cant wrap it easily and its pretty close to a lot of hosing etc. I just wondered what most folks have done. Dont want to try running heat shieldless to find I melt everything.

i don\'t think the stock shield would fit anyway, the hks is much bulkier. mine hasn\'t got one and seems fine. i suppose the wider bore carries heat away a bit better too.

if you want cheap exhaust wrap look up psycho bikes on ebay- 2"x50\' of copper thermotec wrap for £35 plus delivery! i got enough to do my whole exhaust for 75quid, bit of a bargain really!
