whats wrong with my rex8

i got a big headache guys with my 8 which i have only had for 8 months. in october i was drivin back from up north when the engine management light came on but the car was ok and drove no diiferent. when i tired to start the next day it would not go. i had it towed to a local garage who diagnosed it as plugs and leads and they also replaced 1 coil pack. the car was fine for about a month and then the same thing happened. i tow started it and decided to take it to mazda this time who diagnosed it as plugs and leads. i was baffled? told them it had new ones so they took out plugs cleaned and put back in and updated the software to make it easier to start or something. it now runs like a bag of poo and sometimes will not start when its hot or is very difficult to start. at 6000rpm it stutters then kicks on like a misfire or somat. under full throttle it refuses to red line at all. but strangly under half throttle it will get to the redline if you know what i mean. also it is doin about 10mpg. anyone had these symptoms. hope its not a broken engine. car has 50k and is a 192 on a 53 plate.

I\'m by no means an expert but when mine had similar symptoms it was the cat - but I would have thought any good Mazda garage would pick that up.
