Quick one for you experts:

Driving this morning in the freezing cold (-1 C) at about 70 in 5th. Put my foot down for a few seconds in 5th (on a well-gritted road which wasn\'t frosted - I just re-read the post and thought I\'d best clarify things!) and noticed that the boost peaked at 0.92 on the first turbo (lifted before the second came in). The knock reading was still very low so no det. Have noticed peaks of ~0.85 before on the odd occasion as well.

Spec is PFC, panel filter and catback, otherwise stock. AFAIK, peak boost should be 0.77 - do I need to be worried? Any ideas what could cause this?

Thanks,

Chris.

Hi Chris,
The boost will vary especially if the weather is cold.Higher load in 5th will also create a little more boost than in low gears.
The boost level you have experienced with your mods is fine and the map can easily cope.

Out of interest, what happens if the PFC experiences over-boost?

On track at the weekend, early on (i.e. still very cold) I hit around 6k in third (around peak boost on the second turbo I would think) and experienced what felt like a rev-limiter, only not as violent and with the heat lamp flashing (i.e. some kind of PFC error). It didn\'t happen on subsequent sessions or at lower RPM.

As the knock didn\'t get over 74 (same as before on warmer trackdays), I assumed it was the PFC cutting boost as it approached unhealthy levels. Was that the case, or was something else happening!? :2eek
