I got my car back yesterday from the garage having bought one of those £400 lambo door conversion kits.

Basically, it was a really really...really bad idea!

Yes, the doors go up and they do look good but for that one thing I have more scratches, my door trims ruined, I can\'t shut the door properly first time, when the door is up it takes two hands and all my strength to pull it down, I now have wind noise inside the car...

...quite frankly, I\'ve managed to ruin my car and I just feel really depressed!

It hasn\'t worked out well at all and basically, I\'m going to put the car back into the garage and ask him to undo it!

An awful lot of money...it hurts just thinking about it!

ouch!!!

Sorry to hear mate.. I\'ve always wondered what these are like in the real world. Now I know.

DRAGON

Yes exactly! We refuse to fit them now as not one customer has ever liked them for more than 5 minutes.

Do you want a hug?? :)

Get them off mate and back to normal if you can and flog them on. Try to get as much money as possible back to recoup your losses!

Sorry to hear that mate.

My bro has some fitted to his MX5 too.  Its great to open the door at a show, or if you want attention, but it aint worth the cost and imperfections.

He normally opens his as a normal door (the few inches that you can) and crawls out!

Wind noise as you say is increased.  The rain can sometimes get in.  You cant get out the car properly.  Not good!

Still, I think the really expensive kits are better.  They rotate further around and the better gas rams make it easier to shut the door.  You can even get power assisted ones!

Hope it gets sorted :)

I couldn\'t do it Jim, everything that Chris says is true...I just can\'t see that anybody could ever like them...they are that bad!  I took my savings out to pay for it and I wouldn\'t want any rex owner to do the same.

No, its my first leap into the modification world and I\'ve crashed and burned.

As soon as the garage gets new door trims in, my car is going back in and I\'m going to do my best to forget this chapter ever happened!

that\'s a shame mate :(

Well, it\'s good to see that you wouldn\'t want to impose this on someone else, still maybe the Corsa brigade would like them?

You live and you learn - good luck getting it back to normal.

i think as with most mods you get what you pay for, although im sure the best part of £600 - £700 was spent on this one!
save you money and get one of these!!!!

brooksie

I remember seeing all the Veilside cars with scissor doors a few years back, they\'re very wow when you first see them but using them on a daily basis would drive me insane.

Sorry to hear that buddy :(

Still, if that rex owner really wanted scissor doors so much that he\'s already got his £400 out for the kit, he would pay a lot less for yours which in turn  means that you\'re helping him learn his lesson for cheaper. :p

True :).

However, the end story of this horrendous tale is that the guy who did my lambo conversion restored my doors back to their original - or almost original condition - for the cost of the lambo conversion set!

So generally speaking all parties concerned in this farce was ended up relatively happy, the mechanic with my conversion kit and me with doors that shut as they should do!

sorry to hear it mate ...
I know a guy who has his mr2 with lambo doors and he had issues at first ... and had to have then adjusted about 5 times to get the weight right on the struts . And he paid about £1200 for the kit and fitting etc. And then the arches needed rolling out a bit and knocks a bit of paint from the bottom of the door .. so alot of hassle i say .

olly-civic

awww you put lambo doors on a rex eeek, lambo\'s are a max power add on, not made for superior racing cars like our rex\'s
