hotstepper1973

just finished stripping the engine down and was wondering if there is any difference between the front and the rear rotors to look at?

The engine is 13b rew off a fd.

thanks

The rotrs in the FD rax7 are interchangeable because the combustion chamber is what is called a middle deep recess one as oposed to some of Mazda\'s earlier engies that have leading deep recess and so are only for front or rear.
RX8 rotors are middle deep recess, but have cutouts on the rotors so are also only able to be used for front or rear.

thanks carl so when you talk about recess is that on the outside of the rotor?

As one of my rotor\'s has what looks like a little dent in it whereas the other doesnt have a dent so i was thinking one is for the front and one is for the back?

Also slightly off topic i think the rear rotor housing isnt going to be re-usable as there is a gorge in the housing which even though the apex seal had a fracture in it the seal was sat in the rotor still but protruding slightly out of the rotor which is what i think caused the compression loss, but the front housing i am thinking is ok so is it ok to purchase either a used or new rear housing because im hoping to re-use the front housing?

thanks again carl

The combustion chamber is on each of the 3 faces of the rotors.
The gouge in the rotor housing might have caused your problem yes,and it must be mullered from what you have said so don\'t reuse.
As for the dent in your rotor maybe a pic might help to see what you are on about.

The dent in the face of the rotor is from a detonation episode,so that tells you why the engine failed. It does not come from the factory like that.

so detenation can cause that damage - WOW - thats impressive

so it looks like new rotor and a housing jon !
