100,000 miles on new rotar tips?? talkin sh!t?

it\'s mentioned here too : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mazda-Rx7-Type-R-Special-Edition_W0QQitemZ320162247271QQihZ011QQcategoryZ18211QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

the 2 piece factory Mazda apex seals, these seals although expensive are far superior and last far longer than the original 3 piece seals fitted as standard.

just over £4,500 with a rebuild (done by the seller tho.  dodgy?) - still a very good price i think??

What\'s a sump gasket? expensive?

I notice he doesn\'t say about apex seals when he mentions the rebuild??

nikp

I can\'t say I\'ve seen the ebay advert as I\'m at work, but: the 2 piece seal is better, as far as I\'m aware than the 3 piece. Otherwise Mazda wouldn\'t have changed the design.

Kevin

The second one is done by Jason @ Super Seven.  I believe his rebuilds are meant to be really good and he\'s meant to have really good after sale service.  Just what i\'ve heard thou.

ive heard of rotary engines going 100k without a rebuild...i have ceramic tips and they will go the distance i reckon :)

Alex T

yea, Jas is sound for rebuilds, so would have no worries there!
Think I saw that motor the other day while I was there. Looked pretty good!

Alex T

oh, and that first one, wasn\'t there someone who posted bout that one before, and someone said something about the FD not having a sump gasket?! or something bout it being quite a job to do??

RemarkLima

Some people do use a sump gasket, some don\'t (just use Hylomar or similar) but if you get a leaky sump then to take the sump off it\'s either front subframe off to get it off from below or engine back out :(

So yeah, big job to get the sump off for a new gasket / sealant / both.
Montego Blue 94 R2 FD3S... Bling not included.

Alex T

ouch, doesn\'t seem much of a bargain considering that then!

I did see a nice rebuilt one one on there with a couple of k on rebuild, and that was under £5k I think.

I remember the sump gasket thing, it was me who said there iasn\'t one, is this the same car?
I started with nothing and I have most of it left

its best to use the mazda sump sealant rather than the dodgy gaskets, its only about 12 quid or so.
There are performance cars and then there is the RX-7...........

12.3 second 1/4 mile, terminal speed of 122mph (1st ever drag run on a TO4R)

engine built by....... umm me! now powered by a T51 Kai......

What he said ^^^

Engine out job which isn\'t too hard if you have the knowledge or a helping hand, tools and space...

Draco

there is a Sump gasket you can get. on the DIYRE-13b rebuild DVD  he uses the gasket but uses  blue Hylomar 1st on the block then he places the gasket down then replaces the Hylomar on top of that!
