Hi all,
My FB has now got a shiny new MOT, but a very noisey whiney gearbox. I am about to collect an FC gearbox and diff courtesy of ebay and £10 each, which Ihope to be able to put into my FB. So, the question is do Ihave any hope of them fitting? I know for the diff that I will have to take everything apart because the casings are so different, but can I expect the gearbox to be the same, especially the splines front and back?

Hi Dennis,

Pretty sure the splines are the same, the front Deffinatly is and I also think the bellhousing will mate up.

Check the overall length and where the gear lever is positioned and away you go (hopefully).

Tim at RX motors ran a gen 2 box up behind his 12a for ages so they can be made to fit.
All the best Clive

Hi all, and thanks,

Im trying to achieve a less notchy gearchange and no whine on 1st 3rd and 5th gears, which I guess is a bearing or 2 gone. I have to take the gearbox off anyway to change the clutch.
I figured a gen 2 box would be a bit newer than the one I had, and at only £10, the price was definitely affordable. Im collecting it from coventry, so theres a few pounds for milage.

If it doesn\'t work, then therewill be a gen 2 box going for a song/swap.

PS Mark, in that aladdins cave of yours do you have a propshaft? Mine seems to need new bearings and I dont think they are available easily.

afraid not i have 1 but i think it is from a auto (dont ask!!) and they are different, more than welcome to pop round and have a look though

Gearbox will fit fine, gearstick hole needs trimming, and some fabrication of the gearbox mount.Much smoother gearchange, and I never missed a gear with the FC box, ever!
The FC diff is the long nose type,so will not fit the FB.If you have a series 3 FB,the FC LSD unit will fit the FB axle, but it won\'t have an LSD unless it came from an American FC.
