Hi lads i have moved into the RX7 league after buying an EFINI 1994 mazda rx7 twin turbo.

i have been a honda VTEC lover all my life before moving to the turbo league. I have a question regarding on how to drive and getting the most out of my rx7 whilst driving.

I have been driving a honda integra type r for years and the best to drive that car when racing someone is redlining the engine and taking it to the max, i knew what gear to change at what rpm and i could get the max out of the vehicle when racing a friend

But with the RX7 there must be a way of driving it, when to change what gear at what rpm. As i have noticed its not a car you REDLINE on the rev counter you need to change gear at certain rpm.

therefore i keep hitting the rev limiter looking for max power, at what RPM should i really be changing gears if you know what i mean? e.g. 1st 2nd 3rd

i am  a newbie and i have never had a turbo car before in my life so its all new to me.

my mates got an rx8 and he wants to line the two cars up and have a little race together so im just looking for hints and tips of driving and changing gears to get the most power out of it.

if  i am chatting BULLS**T take it easy on me LADS....................

there is so many different varibles mate, all that stuff depends on things like the conditions, ur car spec etc..

I was a mad honda fanatic once as well, went from crx sir vtec to civic, to crx sir vtec to integra type r to rx7!! I know what you mean about hittin the rev limit as honda vtecs are made to scream to death, bit like a motorcycle lol! turbo\'d cars are very different, but you soon get the hang of it.

Listen for the beep!! usually around the 7500rpm mark.  I never heard mine until i decided to drive with the windows up one day! I\'m sure its been said many times on here before......foot down....beep....change gear...foot down....beep....change gear etc etc.....:D

Hope you enjoy the RX, it\'s some machine!!!:3gears-rh

^^^ like above

You do want to redline the RX7, but not all the way to the limiter. There is a change gear beep at 7500, (they put this in all of the RX7s as the engine note doesn\'t change like a piston engine)

Or go for a single turbo conversion, port it, Apexi ECU then change your red line from 7500 to 8100....:evillaugh

may be summut to look for at in the future.
i think i really need to get used to the rx7 first as its defo a different car from the integra type r.

I\'ve had ITRs for years mate, two DC2s and now a DC5. Got my FD a fortnight ago and loving it - had a full geometry setup done yesterday and it\'s enhanced my faith in the RX-7\'s handling no end (which is good, as it had "widdowmaker" settings which could have spun me out quite easily if I hadn\'t had it sorted). I\'ll do a write-up about it in the Wheels etc. section soon.

I also had the DC5 done and frankly the grip is incredible, but that\'s another story. With regards to driving the FD, if it\'s well setup, you should find it not entirely disimilar to the ITR, just beware that being RWD the punishments for lift-off oversteer and flooring it too much when not pointing straight are a bit more severe than in the ITR! ;)

The buzzer kicks in at 7k and I think the limiter stops you going past 8k so changing gear at the mid point is best as the power begins to tail off after. Be careful in the wet as the rear can kick out especially at 4.5k when you will notice a slight hesitation in the power as the transistion from 1 turbo to 2 takes place, that is when the fun really starts.

Hope you enjoy and welcome to the club

damn im going away on holiday for two weeks during that date so im gunna miss it. gunna try and make the next one.

Although i am only planning to keep the RX7 for a couple of months for summer as i dont think i will be able to afford it keeping it for a long time. I didnt really plan on keeping it long anyway. i imported it myself as a hobbie to drive around and sell after a bit i do it with most cars i get.
this one was compresion tested before purchased in japan so its defo in good nick and enough wear on the tips.

But hopefully will be more finacially secure next year and will be planning on importing another and keeping it.

i will see it out till sept/october time and then advertise for sale. so will be there in the next meet up.

the seller who sold me the car in japan said the figure would have been better if the rpm had 250rpm. i dont know much about it but do the results look good or not?

Front

1--0.79 MPa
2--0.79 MPa
3--0.78 MPa

at 205rpm

Rear

1--0.78 MPa
2--0.75 MPa
3--0.76 MPa

at 195rpm
