I had a pipe split on me at the weekend. I have been re-assured by one person already that i should be ok, but i figured i\'d check to see what other peoples opinion is.

I got a small split in the hose that goes from the water pump housing to the heater matrix metal pipe on sunday. In the space of about 10 seconds the engine temp went from 82 to 101 degrees as the coolant came out! As soon as i spotted this temp i pulled over and switched off even before i had come to a standstill. Steam and hot water was pouring of the split. So i managed to temporarily fix the split by re-adjusting the clamp, and re-filled with plain tap water (temporary fix so i could get back). Re-started and all was good: got my the 1.5 miles home where i did a better fix to the pipe.

Just wondering whether the temp is gonna have done anything bad? I know under normal circumstances, 101 is fine as the system is pressurized and therefore that is not boiling. But what\'s the situation when there\'s a split? Will I have got away with it? She seems ok at the moment.
