Oedipus Rex

I got an uprated SMIC and found it didn\'t make that much difference, even with good ducting. I then got a front mount and found a world of difference.

Will a frontmount not block the air flow to the rad ?

m4drx

front mount will block air to rad partially depending on how ou mount the rad, the oe in picture is an xs power not that highly rated at all but not badly rated either takes a good effort to fit as its very different than standard fit.

someone may have mapped after installation so may offer some figures but has many variables in the equation.

Personally I dont like to get involved in the What intercooler is best discussion,
but what I do want to say, is DONT BUY XS POWER!

I have heard nothing but horror stories from people who bought stuff from them, and remember. Just because an intercooler is bigger doesnt mean it\'s better. And what they are selling is CRAP.  Don\'t "save" your money on a cheap IC. Get a good one from the beginning. I promise you, you will thank yourself when you do.

(Some test in I think it was Jap performance, on a Scooby. Showed that the new shiney big and cool ic from ebay took the temps up by alot of degrees over the standard sti one that sits ontop of the engine)
Regarding the Fmic question, Feed makes a Fmic kit (and no vmount) but they are using it on their trackcar, and those get a pretty good airflow due to speed in comparassion to roadgoing cars, and their IC is thin compared to many others to aid airflow to the rad.

I have a filosophy that goes "If you buy quality, you only cry once." I think it\'s accurate 99% of the times.

a front mount will block airflow to the rad, obviously a v mount would be a great set up but I can\'t comment because I never had one.

With a C west front end and a greddy 3 row fmic and a WGT uprated rad I saw water temps never going over 92 even sat in traffic, around 84 driving and air temps at 21, when driving and maybe up to 45 stationary even at the height of summer

Pretty healthy figures in my eyes.

I might leave the XS one, what options do I have without spending a fortune ? A v-mount is ideal but expensive and a fmic worries me if it blocks air flow to the rad.

a well set up front mount will not increase water temps dramatically. Many on here have had one and not had a problem but if you are concerned WGT do an uprated SMIC with proper ducting and everything.

If you\'re going to change to a front mount intercooler you might as well get an uprated rad too, so they can be fitted together.

Certain Intercoolers flow the air through them better than others. I have a monster Apexi, that is supposed to let the air through to the Rad pretty well, and to be honest I can\'t complain.
