Trying to gather some drawings together to help with a DIY exhaust build i\'m doing. Does anyone have any technical drawings of the 12a engine giving dimesnions, angles etc? Ideally I need a plan, side, and front view showing the relative position of the exhaust outlet ports. Also any drawings of the 1st gen chassis/bodywork/underside for establishing clearances etc. specifically around the header/engine bay/rear axle.

Cheers :cheers

I think you are looking for the holy grail here :)

If you want a drawing to scale of the bottom of the car you need to find someone with a genuine mazda workshop manual as they have quite a nice drawing for checking the chassis isn\'t bent after an accident, its got dimensions and quite a few of the chassis rails drawn out.

As for the engine,  unless anyone has modelled one themselves its very unlikely to find that sort of thing, CAD data is very expensive to produce and people tend to hang onto it (companies that is) if you need to know a few key dimensions i have a few engine plates in bits on the shelf and can help out there.

Mike,

This is what I thought, oh well!

For the moment I have knocked up a rough 3D CAD model of the exhaust and header using a plan and side view of the car that I found in the "Mazda Rx7 Gold Portfolio 1978-1991" (Brooklands Books). The drawings are probably not exactly to scale but good enough for what i\'m doing I think. The main dimension i\'m after is the vertical distances from the centres of the exhaust ports to the bottom of the oil sump (or floor pan). This will allow me to establish the vertical drop required on the header pipes.

I think a call to Rx Motors/WGT etc. may be the best bet.
