heya guys and gals.
i currently drive a Renault Cliosport 172cup, No jokes please ;-)

Anyway am currently, (well have for a while) been wantin a rex! im lookin at a 95 (mreg) is that a gen3?
Loved all the ones i saw when i was travellin through aus! they have some mental gen2\'s!!! i have some real good pics. oh and the rx4\'s? i think, another older rotary!

Anyway, just was wonderin about the runnin costs, and it hought id ask the real peeps who own em rather than get guessed advice. A pal waned to swap his Vreg MY00 scooby early last year, but in the end i was scared off when  found out the costs.

Are the rex costs as much? or more? also insurance possibilites?
My car is in group 16-17 dependin on company. I pay £1350FC, i am 21 and have 1yncb, altho when i want to get the car, around march ill have 2yrsncb.

Thanks for your time!

21 with one years NCB... well if you\'re looking at an import, insurance will sting a little. It depends on a lot of things, points or claims in the past, garaged or left on the street, location, security, etc. But you\'re probably looking in the region of £3000-ish. You could get this down with a classic policy (usually needs a second car) \'cos it ignores NCB, or you could try limiting mileage. You could even consider TPFT insurance. Most will advise against it, but run the math. Imagine claiming for a damaged panel, or scratched paint. Losing your no claims, and having the claim on your record for 5 years or so, at your age, will probably cost you something like £5,000-7,000 over a five year period. Anything other than you completely writing off the car, and it may not be worth it, especially considering the cost of fully comp vs tpft will be something like an extra £1000+ per year. Could be something to consider until you at least have 4 years NCB and can get them protected.

Running costs shouldn\'t be too bad, as long as you make sure the car is well looked after. Biggest cost, outside of insurance, is likely to be fuel. I think 25p a mile is about right.

And yes, a \'95 (actually anything after a \'92) is a gen 3. :)

Dan welcome to the forums.

If you were scared by the costs of running a scoob, dont even think of running an RX-7. They cost a fair amount more to run.

Also I dont think you really stand a chance of getting a proper insurance quote until you\'re at least 25, with a couple of years ncb.

i was guna say the same ref scooby prices although insurance wise you\'ll only know if you try a few quotes with yer own details as there does seem to be a large amount of peaps < 25 on here with some very fruity cars

Lots of people have Rx-7\'s and are under 25, just depends if you have the money to spank on insurance

You need to appreciate how much they cost to run though, cos if you spend all your cash on insurance then you won\'t have any left for mods, fun, problems

The novelty of having a fantastic car soon wears off when you are skint

I worked out what my FD will have costed me for the 1st year (assuming nothing major goes wrong over the next 5 months).

That is:  Loan repayment, Insurance, Servicing, rebuild, tax and petrol...

Totals to just a shade under £14.5k.  Not a cheap toy at all.

If you remove the rebuild (4.8k) it\'s still almost 10k!  Petrol for the year will cost ~3k.
