does the dash aorund the stereo area need to come off?

My stereo slid out (not secured in by previous owner), but it has a cubby box underneath too (which I want to remove to fit 3 gauges). I assume like most jap cars the stereos are bolted in and the dash needs to come off??

If so... how?? :)

My stereo wasn\'t bolted in. Just needed the relevant bits to pull it out. It had the standard 2 holes on either side.

I basically just wanna know how to remove the cubby box under where the stereo sits.

Most jap cars are bolt in stereos.

I\'ll have you cubby box if it comes off in one bit and is nice:yes

Mine has a little box under the stereo, basically it has a frame which the box and stereo fit into I can pull the whole things and unscrew as needed

does the dash around the stereo need to come out tho to fit/remove a stereo? Is it what I call a "bolt in" ?

I haven\'t fitted a new H/U to mine yet but you should be able to fit one without pulling half the dash apart if you\'ve got a strong-ish DIN mounting frame to put into the opening. However lots of manufacturers suggest that you do bolt it down at the back which may mean that you\'ll have to remove a panel or two to gain access but the dash should still stay in place.

Once you start running cables for amps and stuff like that the picture changes a tad but I\'ve never had to disassemble a dash in any car to fit either H/U or interconnects.

When I took my Bose H/U out, I didn\'t need to unbolt anything, just use the little removal slots in the side. When I fitted a new H/U, the DIN cage didn\'t need to be bolted in, it\'s held in by bending tangs around the plastic frame in the dashboard. The cubby box in mine is also just clipped in, unfortunately you need to take the H/U out to get the cubby out as you can\'t get at the clips which hold it in from in front. HTH :)
