This may be one of those stupid question but here we go! Should I start my car with the clutch pedal depressed or not? which gives faster engine turning speed ie more chance of the bugger starting!

mikeyh

never touched the clutch or throttle.
i used to press the throttle down fully then release before i turned it over but thats about it.
dont do what a guy in the work did and pump the pedal and turn it over,
i got a call saying car wont start mmmmmmmmmmmmm wonder why

markrx7

at the moment im having to hold the throttle pedal half down to start it :( otherwise it cuts straight out :( Sod knows whats wrong there!

Surely all manuals benefit from declutching at start up. Takes some of the gearbox drag away, particularly in cold weather.

I always start mine up with the clutch fully pressed I find the engine starts a little bit better but that could just be me.

I always start with the clutch down; on a piston engine it helps the engine turn over and you won\'t get a shock if the car is in gear!!

always have the clutch down too.

yeah clutch in. as said above, one less thing for the starter to turn
