Hey guys, I won the rex i mentioned in the insurance post!  should be collecting it from site early next week. I need to get tax on the veh first ¬.¬ (which means getting waiting for the cover note.)

What I plan to do is give her as big a service as i can! i have taken a whole week of from work with this in mind - I have already had a quick look around the site for infomration etc but  i vaule oppinions. What kind of things should i be doing other than the usual Oil change / sparkplugs and air filter (if needed) bearing in mind the car was imported 11/06. Also i have not thought would a place like halfords *shudder* actualy stock oil filters for these or would it be an internet/mazda job?

Once im happy with the mechanics ill give the paint a good fettle and post pictures up oh and also join the mrc :)

Halfrauds do stock the oil filter and are one of the best places for cheap oil:2eek , you need to replace plugs, have a look at the leads [might be OK but check \'em] replace sump plug washer, oil to diff and g/box, fuel filter, give a close look at the belts and check thier tension. If you can lay your hands on one give it a compression test. Take off the UIM and check the condition of the rats nest, bearing in mind these are 12-15 years old most will be brittle and prone to leaks. Check your IC hoses and clips.
Sure there are other bits but that should keep you busy for a while:D

yeah Sounds like it! - although thats half the fun. on another note ive just spotted the cars got a knightsports dial for the speedo goes up to 300k/mh not that i mind, the only problem is there are no notch\'s for the Mph, doing  alittle background checking on that and it seems it a whole component for the dash rather than just a dial face, another thing i need to source then i guess.:evillaugh

The Fuel filter however would mazda be the best place to get these?

What car have youg bought? Any pics? Probably best to do a coolant change too. You can get a mph converter chip but it might not work with your dial...

Dude, seriously - keep the speedo as it\'s a rather rare part and if you have to MOT/SVA it, carefully put some stick-on numbers on the glass to mark 30/40/50/70mph.

Otherwise you\'ll be faffing about with speedo converters and all that stuff.

OK, easy for me to say as my FD has a UK-spec speedo in it :)

its already had an mot done int he uk so its all legal. :) may stick some white lines on it as lines on it as you say. i was also thinking about getting a dial facia made to go over the top of that one :3 donno one thing to think about when i get the car home.

just get a speedo converter are you handy with a soldering iron?

RemarkLima

Just don\'t worry about the speedo, KMPH is perfect legal and basically you do just over 50 kmph in a 30, 65 ish in a 40, 100 in a 60, 120 in a 70...

...Sure if you go over 120 mph it goes off the clock (mine seems to have been delimited... Apparently ;) ), but frankly I personally don\'t think you should be looking at the speedo over 120 mph ;)

But just read your\'s goes up to 300 kmph... So no problems at all!

Almost :).

50mph = 80kph
60mph = 96kph
70mph = 112kph

True, but my speedo underreads quite a lot comparted tot he GPS ;)

And it also keep the odometer in KM\'s so no gammy milage comversions.

That\'s a test I still have to do - mine\'s a converted auto so chances are that\'s it reading slightly low given that I\'m running a manual speedo.

That\'s a very good point actually - I\'ve never been a fan of changing the unit of measurement on the odometer halfway through the life of the car.

hahah yeah thats what i think im going to do now is stick some white lines onto the facia useing some low stick white stuff (not sure yet what but something that wont wreck the facia if i remove em, just to mark the usual speed limits) :)
