When im driving most of the time i get a grinding noise sounding like somethings constantly rubbing on the brake discs. my mate said it sounds like sleigh bells but constant. Its ok for now but when i take all the tinsel out my car i want the sleigh bells gone too.

any ideas whats making this binding noise

Could one of your brake pads be down to the backing?  That would do it...

plenty of meat on them i thinks but its best i check them all when it gets warmer

I would have though brake pad wear too. Maybe the beginning of wheel bearing wear???

Bent brake dust shield?
Low brake pads? (some pads have a couple of metal tabs that are designed to rub on the disc when they get low.
Loose heatshield rubbing the prop?
Something catching a driveshaft?

im going to get it on the ramps and have a look tomorrow, i think my pads have 30% left so it could be that it does sound like something on the discs, i was thinking the shields.

Mines got a grinding/rubbing noise which is all the time except when I engage the clutch. Its 1 of the bearings inside of the gearbox. Not very expensive if you know how to rebuild a gearbox. Might be some help. Hope you get it sorted.

^^^ Input shaft bearing - Mine does that, my S14a did it for 24k miles as well.
As you say, cheap part, but it\'s labour that\'s the killer.

Is there a lip on your brake disc? This can sometimes be the cause but just touching your pad. At least then it\'s a free & easy fix.
