Hi everyone,

I ahve developed a small problem in that my aerial will not err, go down when I turn the engine off!  I can hear the motor running and if I give it a little help form the bottom of the aerial it is fine.

I think this might be a common problem, i ahve nor problem in err, getting it up, but it just stays up and I am afraid that it might get snapped off while I am away from the vehicle if I forget to help it down.

What I want to know is: Is there a way of getting to the workings of the aerial that is easy and basic enough for a DIY job?...

oh yeah... some eejit clipped my car... when it was parked outside my house... luckily I was in the kitchen as headr my alarm blip, so I went out to see what was going on...  swear word, profanity, expletive...

hope you have all enjoyed the cold weather!!!

Mine did exactly the same.

The mast can be replaced by removing the nut on the top (should have two holes for circlip pliers). Once that is off, the mast should come out with a little pull as you turn the radio on to extend the mast. In principle, you then get a new mast from Mazda and feed it back into the hole as you turn the radio off. The motor should pull it back in.

In practice, mine had snapped off and left pieces of the rack inside the aerial body. You can get the aerial out relatively easily after removing the boot trim. I seem to remember that removing the marker light on the rear wing helped access to the bottom bolt too. Once it\'s out, its obvious how to take it apart and remove the broken rack pieces.

2 years later mine still works.
