My oil is getting hot by just driving in citys for 5 min in traffic... it goes up to 110 celsius..... temp outside was 24celsius I use a greddy temp gauge. Fresh rebuild and 15/40 agip mineral oil.The water temp seems good. 1994 R2 spec. Only mods are airfilters and a re amemyia catback "dolphine tale". Anyone got the same ****ty problem?

110C is top end of OK I would have thought. I think Mazda regarded 120C as max.

silverdevill

just out of interest, what is acceptable water temp?. sat in traffic mine can go as high as 92 degrees.

olly-civic

my water temp never changes, altho after some enlightened driving my oil gets up to about 115-120 and the pressure drops cos of this, it soon cools down tho, is yours a type-r?

silverdevill

yes mine is atype-r, i\'m going by the water temp reading on my pfc, is this a reliable indication cos i sure do panic in traffic when goes above 90 degrees.

olly-civic

a coolant system on a car is pressurised, when waters under pressure it has a higher boiling point, so in terms of water temp 120is getting warm, 90 is pretty normal, your cars got 2 oil collers so i wouldnt be to worried about the oil aslong as its not getting mega mega hot when the cars moving

iforgot to mention that my oil pressure drops alot when it gets 110c it goes down to under 2..... normal pressure is 3-4 when driving normal

Your water temp is normal. Fans will auto kick in about 94-95 degs, your PFC will do that. If you are seeing 90 deg temps and you are concerned that sitting in traffic is going to push them up even higher then just turn your internal fan switch on and press your air-con button. When you do this it automatically puts the rad fans on and will drop your water temps. I ripped the aircon system out a long time ago but kept the electrics just in case I ever needed to use the above to cool her down.
Having said that with the cooling set up( RE:WORX V-Mount system ) I have now, even after 20-30 mins on full boost on track my water temps are only 82-84 degs intake low 20\'s:D :D :D :D HTH.
I\'M ALWAYS IN THE SH*T IT\'S JUST THE DEPTH THAT MAY VARY.

Well, oil tends to thin when it gets hot - hence the drop in pressure at idle. As long as the pressure is up where it should be when the engine is running at normal speeds I\'d not be too worried.

Personally I don\'t like cars that don\'t run the oil up to 90-100 C as that means that a lot of the contaminants in the oil and the condensation water that collects in the oil doesn\'t evaporate.

at what water temps should you get worried. i was on a LONG widing road that was closed off(obout 6 miles) full tilt.  and the temps where sitting at 109 and then would steady of at 85ish on normal driveing.  this sound about right??

thanks for the responses guys, has stopped me worrying a lot. i came from a DC5 integra to my rex & am still a bit new to turbo cars. i\'ll live & learn i suppose! lol.
