Hi All

I have colour coded alloys (white) and the rear alloys are scuffed and the paint around the rims is scratched.

I would not mind doing them up my self…Does any one know what do use to rub off the left over paint near the rims and what portable spray gun to use to paint it.
Using a brush does not look very smooth.

I have seen chips away work and it is on the same principle…

I would sugest you take the wheel off the car, then clean it realy well.

Next take it to a Tyre Place and have them Brake the bead of the Rim (if you push the tyre off the rim you can make it easyer and get paint round the edge better)

Then, rub the rim face down with 240\'s and Fill any deep scratches with car body filler and smooth out.

Then mask the back up so you don\'t get paint on the Inside of the rim and oviously mask the Tyre, Now you can Prime the Wheel. You may be best using an Aerosol hibuild primer (just becouse its easyer to use and less cleaning up after) How i sugest you do this is apply two realy nice even coats and allow to go hard, then apply a Guide coat (dust a dark colour aerosol over) Wet Flat using 800\'s wet and dry and you should see any low spots (A tip is to put Washing up liquid in the flating water this will remove any grease then don\'t alow to dry on its own you dry it with Kichen towl etc)

Now if you flat through or need to fill any dodgy bits you will need to reprime the rim.

At this point you have to decide if you want to paint the inside of the rim if its seen? If so you need to remove the masking and quickly scuff off

Now after all that messing about you will be ready to paint it. This is where all the cleaning at the begining comes in.

Now clean again with warm soapy water front and back, and dry realy well (if you have an Air line it would be good to blow any water out of Bolt holes etc)

At this point try not to touch the primed surface.... You don\'t want any Greasy fingure prints on it.

If you decide to Paint the Inside just mask the tyre out if not then you need to mask the inside of the rim up.

Now don\'t forget to put the Rim on some paper etc as you don\'t want a Circle on the Drive ;)

And you can now apply your Colour.

Its up to you if you want to use Cans or Gun, I would be tempted to use Aerosols to apply the colour then Buy some spray on Laqure and when you are happy with the finish give it a coat of Laqure to give it some Protection and a bit of shine.

Wicked wheels came out to me a couple of weeks back. They had quite a lot of kerbing on them (not me!)  Very pleased - they are now completely mint! They basically do what Grizzly described, but they do it well. It wont be the same guy cos Im in Coventry but I would imagine the results will be the same.

They repainted mine silver after the repair work, its part of what they do. It was a very thorough job. Cant imagine white would give them any problems. I would defo use them again.

just as a side note, i would thoroughly NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL, "metal magic" in barnsley. i took my all 4 of my wheels into them for refurbing a couple of weeks ago first thing on a monday morning. i had phoned in advance, and when i dropped the wheels off the guy told me they would definately be ready by friday afternoon, with a slim possibility they could be done thursday so he took 2 contact numbers for me to let me know. anyway i was without my wheels for a week and the 7 was up on axle stands so i had to pay £40 to get myself insured on my dad\'s car for the week (sunday -> sunday), then on friday afternoon i hadn\'t heard anything so i phoned metal magic to see if they were done, and if they were ask if they would have time to balance the wheels with the new tyres on for me. he said they won\'t be ready till next monday afternoon mate, i said you told me friday, he says it\'s written here monday. so i spoke to the manager and explained that i had been missold the deal and would now have to pay another £40 for insurance on another vehicle so i could get to work on monday and i wasn\'t very happy about this. i said would they knock £40 off the overall price (i would have been paying them £220 plus balancing costs) and then all is fair and everyone wins. but noooo the manager then proceeded to call me a liar and say they would never tell anybody the wheels would be ready on friday and that i am lying to her. wtf? i wasn\'t happy with been spoke to like that so went and picked the wheels back up to take them somewhere else, when i got there (this is friday afternoon remember!) all they had ****ing done was take the tyres off and blast the wheels!!! i couldn\'t believe it. still loads of work to be done on them :( so there is my story, don\'t goto metal magic in barnsley.
