480bhp

Hey fellas,
I\'m new here to the forum and have enjoyed several posts.
I\'m part of a race team wich currently race in the Belgian Belcar series.
We are driving a RX-7,but are looking to \'upgrade\' to an RX-8.
Since the RX-7 is only homologated for another year.
I think y\'all can help us looking for a RX-8 ready for racing.
ANY info on RX-8\'s prepared for racing and for sale is very welkom.
Thnx

Hello and welcome to MRC :) ,

We will help you if we can to build your new car with info etc.

Do the rules allow you to put in the RX-7 engine/gearbox from your present car ?

Please keep us posted on your progress.

A friend of mine in Belgium has built a RX8 for a race team, drop me a mail and I\'ll ask him to contact you.

Steve raced RX8\'s in Britcar last year with mazda backing i think? Has (had?) two prep\'d RX8s with carbon doors etc. May be worth a call.

I have just spoken to a guy I know, he is on holiday for a couple of weeks. When he gets back, he will let me knopw how much he wants, as he has a couple of RX8 track prepared cars.

I have to say: I came to the right place....
I\'m pretty sure the gearbox from the rx-7 is allowed in the rx-8. It was bought in the winter season. Have to ask about the engine though.
After this weekend\'s race at the Lausitzring in Germany I will have plenty more info.
Thanx a lot for your reply\'s so far...

How do you mean the car is only homologated for another year? Will it become completely useless or are there any adjustments to be made to the car to make it run again according to regulations?

I figured this car was built to FIA specs for this years Belcar?

Remeber the RX8 is non turbo and performance upgrades in the N/A area are limited (unless you go pheriphial (talk to MAzda Lemmens about that please).

You might consider dropping in a 13B-REW for performance, but then again you know those engines are not so simple ;-)

You mean father and son Van Kempen ?

I again have to thank y\'all for the reply\'s
The current car is owned by Van Herck Racing. It\'s the son of the family who drives the car allong with a paying driver. Last race didn\'t go so well though, The engine blew after it got full turbo pressure after the regulating valve melted!  Indeed, my tought\'s exactly. It\'s only allowed another year in the belcar series. after that it\'s deemed to the B-class. \'Cause of it\'s building year. It does not matter it is build according to fia regulations. It\'s the building year wich counts.
So now we are looking at the options for the future.

FD\'s were built in Japan untill 2002, can\'t you use that as an argument?
Do FIA cars still carry the original VIN number? I was thinking it was removed from the chassis in order to prevent that the chassis would ever be rebuilt for normal street use.

I do know Van Herck, i made there dashboard and some carbon parts.
With all do respect but I think moving \'up\' to the RX8 will be a step down.

First of all the car is heavier than the RX7.
Secondly, the engine (Renesis) has no real potential to drive GTB Belcar (against Porsches and built M3\'s)
Third, You have had many difficulties with the engine setup, building it into an RX8 chassis won\'t help that. Don\'t understand me in the wrong way. I would love for it to work.
Fourth, You can try putting in a 20B (3 rotor) either NA (350hp) or turbo (500hp+) but that will put you in the GTA class I think (+4liter engines)

I hope you guys can find a solution for the green FD. it could be a true \'winner\' in it\'s class.

Homologation rules sometimes apply for the country the series is in but this is certainly worth checking out.  It may be that it\'s a short period after manufacturing stops that the homologation runs out - i.e. they\'re racing under the 2002 manufacture date.  Shame really :(

Saw this FD racing at Brands last year - absolutely awesome, loved the side exit exhaust!

Hi 480 HP,

Not sure how often you visit this forum but I found a 3 rotor race prepared RX8 in your Country, you might already know about it? I "think" it\'s been built and driven by the Goldin brothers in the States (2004-2005) and has raced at the 24 hours of Daytona and 12 hours of Sebring.

That\'s just a bit special.

A full silouette based on an oreca chassis with a 3-rotor.  Probably weighs ~1000kg, might have >500bhp.  Wow.
