When my car has warmed up and is idling the EGT out the back box seems really hot.  I thought it was origionally down to having 2 cat\'s but these have now been removed and little or no change.

If I put my hand about a foot from the tailpipe then I can hardly keep it there for how hot it is :3Confused  I also had a look at a mates car and his seemed only slightly warm in comparison :xconfused

Is this normal? (thinking not!)
What are everyone else\'s like in the same situation?
What could be causing it?

Many thank\'s, Ricco. :3Confused

For me it is a toss up between whether I pass out from the pain of the heat or I get asphyxicated from the fumes.

:Giggle  Thanks :D

Well i\'m asking because when I was at Pod I couldn\'t tell if this MR2 was running, so I put my hand by the exhaust and I could feel it but there was hardly any heat - which is what led me to try it on another rex (which was a little hot but still much colder than mine)

Asked a mate and even he neally burnt himself cause he didn\'t expect it!! :evillaugh :evillaugh

Remember if its the MR2 from 1993 - 1998 there are 2 exhausts but only i really kicks stuff out the one on the left is the working one, left hand side if stood at rear of car.

I had a MR2 hence the remark, mine did this anyway :Laugh

My understanding is the rotary engine does run very hot and hence is expelling hotter exhaust gases that a piston engine. Wouldn\'t want to hold my hand anywhere near the exhaust on mine either.
FD or not FD? that is the question.

Mine is always scorching hot aswell...the Supra exhaust is always cold though even after a run!

Lol I know what you mean, saw it on a mates MR2 one on a cold day and could see the moisture coming out of just the one. Luckily for me this other one was just a single exhaust (the MR2 with Celica headlights BTW) else I would have just been confused all day! :Giggle

Well I guess it all helps spool those tubbies up quicker! :D :driving
