Hi,

As some of you may know, Im currently redoing the rats nest on my FD. However, it has come to my attention that all may not be well with my turbos. Basically on startup, there is smoke from the exhaust for a couple of mins. Also, I remember on one journey where i was driving along a dual carriageway on boost, came off the throttle and my friend driving behind said he saw a puff of smoke from the exhaust.

Basically, all of this leads me to believe my turbos have had it.

Now this is where ive reached the crossroads.

Irrespective of which option I take, the engine is going to be rebuilt (standard 2mm mazda seals, good condition old housings, end plates etc and an extended port).

Now in an ideal world Id like to be aiming for around 350rwhp.

Ive basically given myself 3 options.

1. Stick with the sequential twins and get my twins reconditioned. Add a Catback exhaust, decat, downpipe and FMIC. Get the standard injectors cleaned and calibrated and fit an 044 fuel pump and a slghtly larger FMIC and aluminium radiator and get the PFC remapped

2. Convert the twins to non sequential and do the rest of the above.

3. Go single turbo kit and fit larger injectors, 044 fuel pump, big FMIC, rad etc...

Can anyone tell me if option 1 can be done on standard injectors. ie can i obtain 350 rwhp on stock injectors and an uprated pump? If it can be done, what sort of injector duty cycle would i be looking at (ie how much safety net could i have in the fuel map?)

Failing that, at sort of boost and/or powe do the stock injectors start to hinder me?

Next question, what differences would I experience betweeen option 2 and 3? Would it just be easier to have the twins reconditioned and then made non-sequential?

Finally what sort of costing should i be budgetting for if i decide to go for option 3 bearing in mind that ill be fitting everything (the only thing I wont be doing is mapping it)

Any advice from anyone would be gratefully recieved.

On my last Fd i was running 320ish at the wheels and that was maxxing out the injectors, so the 350rwhp isnt reachable with the injectors. going 850cc in the primarys should give you enough fuel and is the most cost effective way of reaching your goal!

Going non-seq isnt going to net you anymore power, just change how its delivered. Will make the rats nest neater though. 2ways of doing it the cheap way of repluming the vac hoses or the proper way(machining out wastegate...)- the cost of this is better spent on the above injectors and poss WI IMO.

Going single gets expensive, but your doing most of the upgrades needed to support it and if you reconditioning the turbos the money could be put towards a new turbo.

Difference between option 2 and 3 depends alot on what turbo you go for...option 2 is a very useable street set up that is alot of FUN!

HTH a little
