28 yrs old
8 yrs NCB
3 yrs on the FD.
Always had a clean license.
SE postcode.

\'96 FD
~270rwhp
Garaged, alarm, immobiliser.
Limited to 5000 miles, weekend car.
_Every_ modification declared with value.
Parts damaged/stolen replaced like for like.

Excess is £520
Renewal is £2115.15

That\'s what I get for moving to SE London, it increased by £800 from a LU postcode.  From some cursory ringing around it seems the other big contributer to the premium is the like for like replacement of modifications.  Footman James seem to be one of the few who offer this.  The rest will only pay out the cost of the original manufacturers part which in most cases will be substantially less than the cost of the modification.

I do not currently have the strength of will to try and find a better quote, probably because I know I would have to compromise on the \'like for like\' aspect.  Maybe I\'ll try tomorrow.

Chris.

Just phoned AON.
They do not cover an RX-7 unless it is a second car.
I pointed out that even though it was my only car, it was not an everyday car and that the mileage would be limited but no dice.

Tried A-Plan?  Premium last year was ~£1400 (SE London, parked on street), this year down to £650...

Just phoned A-Plan.
I will have to send though a list of all my modifications before they can quote (obviously).
The big difference is that it is not a like for like policy - I think it is called an agreed value policy.  If I write off my wheels for example (£2k), they can replace them with the standard 16" Mazda RX-7 wheels which obviously would not be good.

The agreed value policy is where I am getting hit and the premium does sound about right really.  It\'s just that I haven\'t accepted it yet.

Damn the crime in SE London.

Big problem you have is not having a second car!

If you bought a shed as a daily runaround, you could insure the RX on an agreed value policy through Houghtons as a classic and you\'d be saving HUGE amounts! As an example, my TII was insured with minor mods as a daily driver for £850, when I did the bridge port that went up to £950 and with all the other stuff that\'s been done it will be £1400 as a daily driver. However when I last had a quote as a classic (2nd car 5000 miles) that wnt down to £350!:cheers + I keep the mileage off the car and I didn\'t end up running the car in town (which it doesn\'t like) using petrol at 9mpg!

I\'ve thought through buying a shed but the idea doesn\'t sit well with me, because all it would do is sit on my drive and get in the way - I really wouldn\'t use it.  Factor in the cost of purchase, insurance, road tax, MOT and it would cost more than paying the extra premium.

not if you had it for 2-3 years, + if you got something (heaven forbid) that was PRACTICAL :eek then you could spend your weekends going to and from DIY places with various home improvement products! :Nono! . I suspect this isn\'t selling the concept! :Laugh

Haha, well at least you\'ve cheered me up by pointing out that it could be worse - weekends spent doing DIY and driving something practical :)

Chris give Steve at Egger Lawson a ring and say I sent you (Gareth from Melton Mowbray). 01159415255 option 4 then 2.

He\'s sorted me out quite well with a renewal this year.

A-Plan have quoted me ~£1300, of course, it is not an agreed value policy.  Food for thought.

It may be worth trying Lifesure (0870 366 1235) - living down the road from you (as we found out on tuesday!) with a single turbo and all other mods declared came in around £850 a year, with car in residents car park - which apparently  they treat the same as being left on the road.

Not sure if that is agreed value or like for like though - to be honest i assume it is agreed value.

Turns out my insurance with Footman James was not agreed value >sigh<.  I\'ll be going with A-Plan and trying to forget about the huge premium I\'ve been paying for no good reason.

sadgoth

:o nasty!

I had an issue with agreed value, they said it has to be on a second car policy, so I bought a shed of a Chavllier (since passed over to the other side!) and that meant that I could insure the RX on a classic 2nd car agreed value policy!
