How do you take the casing off the alternator ??

I\'ve taken out the four bolts round the outside and tapped it apart with a rubber mallet but it won\'t come completely apart , what am I missing ???

Finally tuned - 317.3rwhp :burnout (thats 374.4fwhp for those who like bigger numbers)

The coil is only held in place by the front plate via two main bearings and the pulley belt. You may need to pull it quite hard, the bearings can be very sticky. I did it slowly with a brake opener from machinemart trying to keep it even. The main stator and other bits are held in with another few screws but the outer wrap of coil needs to be bent carefully out of the way for access. The electronics are held in place by the terminal on the back of the alternator.

Getting it apart is easy, its the putting it back together. You need to hammer flat the end of metal coat hanger and bend it to 90deg. With this you need to slide the inner coil back in while holding the brushes back. Once you get there you will know what to do !
