Folks,
Have slowly (no time and waiting for parts from Japan) been re-building the RX-2 12a. Had this litttle issue where no matter which of the 4 available spacers I tried I could not get any end play - now I like building tight motors but not that tight :)

Replaced one of the front thrust bearings with a later model one. Now you might think they would be the same as early ones - oh no! They look the same but on much closer inspection the modern ones are very very slightly thicker (sorry I didnt measure but can if required). I quickly changed it over for one from my 10a parts box and voila I had end play back!

So for information those who are building early engines you need to either a) get the early bearings (going to see if I can get stock from Japan this week) b) be prepared to have an over sized spacer made if you want to use modern thrust bearings.

Thanks to Geff for popping over and banging heads with me and suggesting we should check this.

Rgds
