hi people
dont know if anyone has any experience on this one, but i will ask anyway
i have had my engine rebuilt by 1 of the vendors above and since then have had a power fc fitted and mapped by another of the vendors. does the waranty on the rebuild still apply? dont know if it makes any difference or not but this would also be the 2nd claim on the waranty. the power fc and mapping was done after the 1st claim
 any advise appreciated

Your best bet is to ask the vendor who built the engine. Let them know all the details of what has been done and let them decide.

Bit hard for the engine builder to cover his work once another builder/ tuner has had a play, as Fish has said give the guy who built the engine a call, but I would be supprised if he will agree to continue the cover.

thats what i thought, to be honest with you.will give him a ring though. this rx7 lark is starting to get me down. after having the car for 16 months. it being off the road for about 7 months 10 grand spent and 2 engine builds later i think its gone again :Grrr

Quiet often a bad map can blow an engine, I cant see an engine builder giving a warentee on anothers tuning.
Why did you not go to the engine builder for mapping first?
Why involve another vendor?

i can see what your saying and i\'m not blaming anyone.
just a little history for you
bought car and had apexi filters and racing beat exhaust fitted and de catted
6 months later as i had the cash and car was beyond 60k, i had engine rebuilt and little porting. nothing wrong with car but didnt want it to blow when i was skint.
2k miles later side seal and corner seal failed. no apparent reason for this.
had engine re built under warranty. everybody happy no probs
mentioned to builder about having power fc fitted + mapping, vendor says buy pfc and run on base map till have more mods.
2 months later after gathering some more funds decided i should get some gauges put in as worried about standard oil pressure gauge not moving at all.
decided at this point to have pfc + map done. after finding out from engine builder at last visit that mine was the only auto he had worked on, didnt see much point in taking it there for mapping.
anyway had mapping done elsewhere, (boost wasnt increased or anything)
car ran fantastic for 2 weeks but today it started showing same symptoms as before.
as i said, not blaming anyone just seeing what you guys think
with hindsight i would do alot of things different, its just this learning curve is far to expensive for me!

Thanks for clearing that up, you really will need to speak to the engine builder, and its a hard call, just depends whether or not he feels the tuning was a major factor in ther failure or not.

i have no reason to question either parties workmanship and as far as i am aware all work carried out to high standard however after £0000\'s spent my cars running like crap!

i thought having the pfc and mapping done would make it more relliable and safer.

Feel for you matey, spending all that money without an end result is very fustrating to say the least, what was/is the reason for engine failure again ??? I as ask its gonna be expensive but surely the vedors involved should make sure the car was safe to run as it was

well its unclear at the mo will get a compression test done tomorrow hopefully. but it feels like its missing as you you get to the top of the rev range. last time this got progresively worse until it wouldnt go up a hill. anyway not casting any aspersions as dont know for sure but just feels the same. it threw a side seal and a corner seal last time and although i wasnt told this at 2nd rebuild i thought it may have been something to do with the standard ecu and fueling which is why i got the apexi fitted hoping to avoid it happing again

sounds like possibly it is some ancillary problem that was temporarily fixed when the engine was rebuilt, possibly something to do with the rats nest (assuming it is a twin) as it so often is!
If it is doing what it did before i would be tempted to look at things other than the block itself perhaps. You could be lucky and have a ten quid fix on your hands, replacement pipe or sensor etc...

Best ofl uck though and keep us informed. Also if it is not too far how about getting another opinion from a vendor other than the two you have dealt with so far...
