OK guys...

Just been out to try and start the RX, and found the battery was flat!!  Tried to jump start it from my other car, and when i try and turn it over all i get is a really loud clicking sound!! :(

Do you think its just the starter motor thats jammed, and could be freed up by bumping it off, or do you think the starter motor is completely shagged??  If it\'s the latter it\'s very doubtful that i\'ll make RS3, as time is running out and money is very tight.

Or do you think it could be something else??  Any help or ideas appreciated..

If your battery is really flat flat it probably won\'t start your car as the dead battery just sucks all the power !

You have two choices remove and charge or connect your leads off the other car and let it run for a while to put some power into your dead un.

O\'yes when you conect the leads put plus on the dead battery and the minus lead onto a good earth on the engine and not onto the battery.

p.s. by doing this you shouldn\'t scramble your ECU which by the way happens on RX-8 if you jump em !
All the best Clive

HI Clive,

Thanks for the input, i have actually let it run for a while to try and charge the dead batt up a little, then tried to start it while still connected to other cars battery... It does turn over, but all i get is the harsh clicking sound from somewhere near the bottom right of the engine bay (as you look from front of car)...  All the dash and warning lights come up fine, bvut it just doesn\'t seem like the starter is turning the engine over...

it could be that the starter solenoid is stuck....try shaking the car (easier said that done lol) but try rocking it from side to side to free it up...

dubber91

sounds like the solenoid mate....

But could still quite easily be not enough charge in the battery. Its gonna take a while to charge the battery by driving it.....say an hours drive before you get even close to a respectable level of charge. Go buy a charger and charge it right up

Well it\'s all sorted now :)

Called the AA which i have membership through Mazdarotaryclub.com members discount scheme :Thumbs-up

They had a good look over it, was only a young guy by all accounts, but had quite a sound knowledge of rotaries, and fell in love with my RX (which well he should lol :rollin)

We got the starter motor sorted which was just stuck by all accounts and he also manage to trace a bad earth which was causing the battery to not charge properly and he sorted that as well.

Took the car out for a 45 minute drive, so hopefully that will have helped charge it up a little, but i do have a battery charger so still contemplating removing the battery and giving it a proper full charge up!!

Just the fuel gauge and coolent temp guage to sort in dash and it\'s fully operational again....

Cheers for the replies fellas... Roll on RS3

Jit

how did he sort out the stuck solenoid if you dont mind me asking? I got this prroblem on my integra and always refuses to start...just wondering if theres a better way of solving it than looking stupid while shaking the car every time!!!

Sometimes if you stick it in second and rock the car forwards and back it can help free up the starter motor !

Did the gauges turn up ok ???

Sure did shaun thanks  :cheers

Just waiting for the weather to improve to try and find out what the problem is. My mate seems to think it\'s probably the sender.. But we\'ll see lol

**EDIT** Anyone know where i can get a sender from if it is that, thats faulty??
