Hi folks,

Been a member on here forever but still havent got round to purchasing an rx7 3rd gen yet.

Anyway after owning a 2.5ltr twin turbo Lexus Soarer (really nice car) and a tiny Suzuki Cappuccino I have decided its nearly time to take the plunge.
My Mazda MX6 is falling to bits and I am about to remortgage.

I am looking to add 15k to the mortgage just for a car and have wanted an RX7 for ever so maybe this is the time to do it.

Basically I would want to spend maybe upto 10k on the car with the 5k for mods/respray/rebuild down the line.

A couple of things are puzzling me so maybe someone could help me out.

Where to source..... should I go private or import from Japan. NewEra look good - worth contacting? Any other good importers?
If I buy here where would people on the forum recommend?

And lastly - anyone near the Blackpool area with an RX7 so I can show the wife? She\'s set on an RX8 but I think can be swung round to the 7 if I can show her one in the flesh so to speak.

Thats basically it :)

Thanks for reading and for replying (if you do) in advance.

Cheers

If you want my advice, i\'d read the Tips section to give you an idea of what your getting first then have a look at a few that are alredy here (you will get a nice one for 10k)

Next you want to decide what you want? Do you want a moded single Turbo for weekend blasts or a more stock one thats newer and possably better cosmeticly.

If you can\'t find what your looking for in the UK you won\'t go far wrong with Newera but if your like me i\'d want to see the car first hand before handing my cash over. As i\'ve been told in the past the amount of realy nice fd\'s for sale in Japan is drying up so go off reputation when buying.

I can\'t tell you enough to spend time reading up on what to look for and avoid, it may even be worth you while taking a trip to Pip\'s at WGT (i think your closest Rx guy) and have a chat with him.

You can buy private or use one of the importers, best to get one with a recent rebuild with paperwork, if you are buying over here then make sure its been rebuilt by one of the reputable engine builders who may be able to give you a brief history of the engine, and any work that has been done to the car. Be carefull, there are a lot of bad examples out there.

Buying from an importer you should be able to get a years warranty..?

By the way im selling my car if your interested  :D please see link in my signature below.

Good luck with your search.

I\'m still with my first FD, I bought it from pip @ WGT in Jan last year and it\'s been fantastic. If i was to do it again tho, I would buy one without a rebuild for less money, then you can have the engine rebuilt to your own spec and for what you want to do with it.

For example, I was more than happy with the performance to begin with, especially as it was first RWD car, but fairly soon I started adding bits to up the power. I\'ve now got to the stage where the next step is to go single. Whilst I know the engine is good haveing had a recent rebuild, it is only on the stock ports and this will limit the amount of power a single will give me, and I cannot afford to have it ported   :(

You are lucky in that you have a budget of twice what I had, so I have no doubts you will be able to buy an build a fantastic motor for what you have, but just think about what your goal is going to be before you buy. I swore when I got mine that I\'d never take it past the twin stage, but I\'m currently weighing up the pro\'s an cons of various kit lol.

You could try emailing pip with what you are thinking of getting and where you want to take it, he gave me invaluable advice before I bought mine as has been said there are a lot of abused examples out there. I took me 7 months of looking at loads of examples an even after that if it wasn\'t for pip I may still have bought a melon.

Good luck

Swings and roundabouts, you can buy a car thats been rebuild and you know its sound (if its been done properly)

If you buy one to rebuild thats low on comp you could be opening an expencive can of worms. Eg. I am rebuilding an Fd with a blown engine that i though would need a Housing and Rotor, i have now repaced both Rotors and Housings and its going to need the Turbo\'s rebuilding. The only sign this car gave it had gone was a mis fire (it still started and ran) So you take a gamble.

I still say talk to Pip he omes across fd\'s for sale all the time.

I\'ve bought a FD & an integra from miguel at newera & cant fault them, good descriptions of car & comprehensive report, kept updated all the time. Only problem I had was travelling from john o groats to pick it up in brighton, but the drive home was worth it
