Here\'s another engine rebuild thread! Isn\'t it something about the time of year, or something!?

Dave (Davehg - again, many thanks dave) and I spent the day removing and dismantling my engine. I would like to say that everything went very smoothly and was very straightforward....but it wasn\'t. I spose it looked like the day was going to be frustrating when the power steering pulley wheel wouldn\'t budge! In the end i had to shatter it to remove it. So, chalk up number one part for replacement.

Once the engine was parted from the gearbox, dave noticed that the flywheel was a lightened one - which was pretty good news! Until we got the whole engine out, and it showed signs of heat damage to it! Damn - Hopefully it will be ok, but I\'m expecting bad news when i take it to Tims down at RX-motors.

The engine came out relatively straight forwardly, and of course there was the shearing of an exhaust manifold stud - which i think was to be expected. All in all though, a total of four bolts/studs sheared on the engine! grrr.... That includes a very stubben water pump housing. It had correded to the rightmost stud so the darn thing really didn\'t want to come off. We had to wedge a few screw drivers inbetween the water pump housing and front plate so that eventually there was enough room for a hacksaw to cut the stuff. So, chalk up number two part to be replaced! Oh, and then i noticed that the water pump was leaking - so that\'s number three! (This is looking like it\'s going to be expensive! :()

Ah, forgot the turbos - initially they looked pretty good. Until i noticed the shaft play in them - i\'m no expert, but they could visibily be seen to move back and forth, and i guess that\'s pretty bad. Cracking to the manfold looked pretty good too - i.e. none - but Dave noticed one large crack which went the mating survice of the gasket. So i think the turbo\'s are junk now too! Looking to be really, really expensive!

Also the engine mounts had perished, so that part four!

Splitting the engine to bits, showed a small puddle of water in the rear rotor housing, so at least my suspicions were correct - water seal failure. I think there were a total of 3 areas where the water seal had failed! Unfortunately, there were also signs of wear on the rotor housings (both of them!) so they also need to be replaced! Parts five and six!

So, there we go - a total of ten hours spent removing and dismantling a very stubben engine. Now I need to start finding replacement parts, and get her all back together. Not sure if i\'m going to be able to go to rotor stock now :( Not in the rex, at any rate.

I shall be doing what everyone recommends, and porting her, of couse!
Here endith the latest update. There will be more.....I hope! :p
