some of you may have noticed that i have been working on a conversion on my FC cabrio. in a nutshell i have fitted an s5 engine into a s4 shell and at the same time converted it from being an auto into manual.

i have had to chop and splice wires to do this conversion. im pretty confident that i have done a good job on this, i didnt bother hooking up the emisions and i have rewired my fuel pump using the instructions from here - http://www.1300cc.com/howto/how2/rewire.htm

the problem is that when i go to start it. the ignition comes on like its supposed to but the fuel pump doesnt run and the engine wont crank. i dont hear any clicks when i turn the key so it isnt even trying to start.

I found a wire which comes on when only in the cranking position with 12v, and i can run a remote wire to the fuel pump relay from the battery and i can actually get this engine cranking if i want to and the fuel pump running but it means pretty much hot wiring it. - by using the 12v wire on the starter and using a 12v remote wire onto the new fuel pump* relay.

this has got me thinking -- what are the possibilities of by-passing the whole system by using a "start" button and a manual overide for the pump? will it actually start and be able to run without hassle!?  i would like to use my keys tho in the normal way!

someone said that the problem im getting is from the inhibitor / manual interlock switch as the car would have only started if its in "P" position when it used to be an automatic. how do i bypass it?? is that relay behind the coil near the firewall on the passenger side my starter relay?

im really stuck someone please help!!!

so nobody knows...

thats a shame -- im going to wire up a new ignition system with a push button starter going to a relay. shouldnt be too difficult but its just more stuff to do - i would have loved to utilise the stock wiring.

thanks for looking anyway you 49 people!

Its a bit dificult not knowing what you\'ve chopped out and changed but in theory all you should have to do is short the two wires together that went to and from the park brake switch. Or alternativly wire it through the neutral switch i think the FD has.

you have a point kev, if i could find the right plug mate i would short it,but the FSM wires are coloured different and i have tried testing wires but its difficult to do that when your on your own as it means being on both sides of the ar at once.

when i get my ignition system done and it doesnt start im going standalone! or setting the basterd on fire lol!
