Hi,

Just got my renewal through, and after declaring all mods, it came out at £1150 fully comp with Tett Hamilton Insurance.

I am running about 380BHP approx with the mods in my sig. I haven\'t got time to chase around other insurers - does this sound reasonable for a 34 year old ?

How much are the guys out there paying for big BHP single turbo monsters ?

Cheers, Craig

Deafened by the resounding silence eh! I don\'t run a 380BHP monster (mine\'s pretty stock) but it doesn\'t seem too bad to me. Having said that you may well be able to get it a bit cheaper if you put the time into phoning around. Also depends on whether thats limited mileage or not.
FD or not FD? that is the question.

It all depends really on what type of insurance your talking about. Are you using the car as a daily driver or have it on a classical insurance. Im running 350ish declared and my premium went from 420 for a stock car to 700ish for a modded car on a 5k limited classic policy. I\'m 27 with houghton as a second car on a classic policy.

The coilovers, and larger brakes may be making it a greater risk in the insurers eyes, so the premium is just higher.

Are you absolutely sure its 380bhp ??? Maybe you are over estimating (if you don\'t have a dyno readout to prove it) and making the car a much higher risk. Are you just telling them its 100bhp over standard type R ?

Insurance is a dart board quote affair at the best of times, very much a black art.

Hope this helps

A good point raised here, how the hell are the insurance company ever going to test your output in the event of a claim ??

You might as well tell them it now produces 210 bhp, I\'m sure anyone with a dyno  could nock you up a dyne sheet to prove it !!

I wouldn\'t go that far, they will have reference to what power each type of setup will have. In the event of a major bump they could have the right of not paying out if you have lied about the performance of the engine. I think sometimes poeple think of pub figures when they actually quote to insurance companies and get stung for greater premiums because they think their car are running higher bhp. This may not be the case here but it is a valid issue.

Its suprising when you tell an insurance company its modded they don\'t expect you to have a power run at a company they have accredited just to prove your not trying to pull a fat one.

I think some of the ranges are quite broad anyway so maybe it won\'t make as big a difference.
