Hi all,

I\'m just getting into replacing the stereo on the rex and after pulling the old one out and looking at the service wiring diagram I\'m still wondering about a couple of things.

What I\'ve figured out is here:

Thing is I can\'t figure out what X and Y are on the diagram even after looking at the service manual?

Also where should I ground the audio connector and where do I hook up so the unit dims when the lights are on? And where would you hook up an amp to do the auto switch on thing?

Basically I\'m hooking up an ISO connector to replace the factory one to save future hassle.

Cheers!

Paul.

the amp is an easy one, the feed for the antenna is also the switched output you would use for your amp. and it could be the two missing wires you need earth and lights are x and y as they are no where else ,you need a multi meter or a bulb and wires to check. batt to x/y and if you get 12v then switch everything on lights, ignition ect if it stays 12v this is probably earth. if you switch on your side lights and loose the 12v its the light feed. hope this helps

TBH you\'re probably better off buying a Mazda -> ISO adapter from one of the usual suspects.

I\'ve just had the joy of bodging an ISO connector onto the wiring of my FC Convertible and I\'d rather not do it again.

Actually when I touch the install again I\'ll probably have to redo that part because it is a tad too messy.

I bought a Mazda -> ISO convertor thing but when I tried to push the stereo in there were just too many connectors and wires. Basically in the end I had to cut the Mazda connectors off and join up the ISO connector.

Cheers all! Jon I\'ll give that a go at the weekend.

I\'m quite happy rewiring the connector as it makes for less mess at the back of the stereo. I\'ve also got a Defi Link control unit to fit in there a well so have to splive the wiring for that in as well :) I\'m going to fit a connector onto that and the existing wiring so I can remove it easily if required.

I just found out that the wire I thought (and others had said) was illumination, isn\'t :( The stereo/gauges don\'t dim when the lights are on, anyone any thoughts?

Ta!

Just an update to this, the wire in question is actually linked to the dimmer.

Problem is most headunits (Alpine ones anyways) and dials are only supposed to use the signal saying the lights are on/off as they dim by a preset amount. I\'m going to have a hunt around the service manuals to find a wire to do the job.
