Hi all,

After saying what nice people Firebond are to deal with over the phone I recieved a letter on Friday morning telling me to pay them money despite Groupama telling me they were cancelling my policy??? I just don\'t want other people to get caught out like me.

Turns out if the insurer cancels a policy you are still required to pay for it in full as you owe the mony to the broker and not the insurer. so don\'t get caught out like me and cancel your payments until everything has been confirmed in writing.

I did send the following email to Firebond :2Confused  which I think you will find of interest!!!

Dear Si/Madam,

Followingthe telelphone call from Jenni Tweedale of Groupama Insurance on the 6th February 2006 she stated that Groupama were cancelling my policy and you were to be informed of this fact??

Therefore  around the 20th February 2006 I cancelled your direct debit with my bank as a matter of due course as nobody I know pays for items they no longer have and thought no more about the matter.

However, I recieved a letter from a company called Powermile Ltd asking me why I had done this? and I promptly called Julian Oldham of Powermile and asked who are you??? Presumbly a subsidary of Firebond???

Julian informed me that I was still liable for payment despite providing the above information as well as information about this matter. Although Julian empathised with my dilema I would have thought at least someone from your office would have had the decency to call and advise me of this matter first.

I paid the final amount in full but is has left a bad taste in my mouth in the way in which you deal with your customers especially as I was informing members of the mazda rotary club how professional and courteous your staff are when speaking with them on the telephone. Its a pity your company does not reflect this when a customer has a problem and needs help or advice or indeed when responding to emails.

To date I have not had 1 response to any emails I have sent you and no doubt this one will produce the same result!!

I will be publishing this email on the mazda rotary club website as a matter of course and I certainly hope that you review your current policies when dealing with customers and improve them!

With regards,

Paul Ribera

Thank you for your mail.

You do have two existing contracts at the moment.  An insurance Policy
Contract and a Credit Agreement Contract.  Powermile is a seperate Credit
Company that is administered through Firebond PLC\'s offices and your
contract of insurance is with Groupama Insurance Company.

Your insurance policy can cancel at any time by you returning your
certificate of motor insurance.  As long as you have not made a claim your
insurers will refund part of your premium.

Your credit agreement can only cancel by paying all remaining instalments
less any return in premium (see above).

I have spoken to your insurers Groupama today who have confirmed that your
policy is still in force and that there is at present no cancellation
instructions present. They did confirm that your vehicle would be a
catergory B write off and following this they would not be willing to insure
that particular vehicle again.  Is this where the confusion has arisen?

If you require your policy to cacnel, please do write to Fdirebond PLC
requesting this so that a return in premium may be applied for from
insurers.  I understand that the claims fault may lie with a third party and
therefore a return in premium following cancellation may be applicable.  I
can also confirm that you have now paid the remainder of your Credit
Agreement in full.
