Black smoke on idle

when sat in traffic or not moving anywhere I occasionally get puffs of black smoke, it stinks of fuel too. Is this normal, dont have no problems whilst driving etc but if I pull into maccy dees drive through for example it\'ll sometimes begin to smoke fairly heavily too IMO.... this cant be normal can it? anyone else experience this? what could it be?

I\'ve had a similar problem, after sitting in traffic for about 10 minutes or so big plumes of oily smoke appears. When you\'re driving along it seems totally fine, although sometimes when you boot it there are puffs of the same smoke.
Took it to WGT to get serviced and get a PFC installed. It started smoking when they were mapping the PFC. They told me it was the turbo\'s, its going back next week to get them reconditioned so I can\'t tell you if that sorts it until I get it back. They know their stuff though and I have only heard good things about Pip and the guys there though.

thanks for the replies guys... Pip knows my car VERY well (so well he used to own it..lol) and he set it up not that long ago actually but I need to go see him for a service anyhow so will get him to check it over...

I would have guessed turbos too but the fact it smells of petrol so much Id go with Fishes contribution although strange how it only does it sometimes....

not really done it since mate. although if I sit in none moving traffic for 10minutes plus it\'ll chuck out a little blue smoke which is oil. its expected now. ONLY ever does it sat still when its hot

Thanks Dave,mine seems to be ok too,gave it a good trashing & seems to be gone now
