Hiya
This is prob going to make me sound daft but how do i know what type of car i have? as in type? my insurance company have been asking me, but to be honest i have no idea, they have insured me as a 2.6 twin turbo auto, ive been on the phone most of the day with them, they have assured me i am insured and they know its a 5 gear man, they just said they couldnt find that car on there system.
All i know is my car says rx7 efini on the back, i havent got the log book as of yet so i cant check on there.
Id be greatful for any help.

ohhhh had a qutoe from knightsbridge, they will fit a chip and recalibrate for 100 as i already have the chip, is that a fair price to pay?

Hiya thanks for that info, ive read the page and i still dont know....lol doh
all i know is mine is a 95 model but it has 16 inch alloys, i can put a pic on if anyone can tell from a pic..... i\'m not thick really...............

About the chip......the chips comes tomorrow i\'ll let you know what chip it is..... i know knightsbridge said if it wasnt the right chip then the price would be 150.

What sort of chip??? most of these \'chips\' are bad news - sounds to me like you will be getting an expensive lesson.
As most as in ALL the UK rotary tuners will tell you extra power dont come cheap certainly not from a \'chip\' might work on your Nova\'s and the like but not on these babys.
Most likely you have an RB

Its not a performance chip. it still reads in kmh, the chip to make it read mph and the clocks need recalibrating. sorry for the misunderstanding. That would be the wife putting messages on.

ah, thats ok then, was worried about same as what John said :)

All 3rd gen rx7s have same engine, turbos (excluding some inmprovements on 99+ spec), so basically as long as your insurance knows its an import and has the cc/transmission/year correct cant see you having a prob. The main error that normally happens when people get quotes is the cc gets put down as 2354cc instead of 2616cc and this ends up giving a quote for a 2nd gen rx7...some reason there computers dont pick up on fact there are no 3rd gens listed as 2354cc!

Phew you had me worried then :)

if you are lucky there should be a sticker on the drivers door sill which gives you the type.. mine says type r special edition.. what the special edition means I dont know...I didnt see it for the first three months of ownership so it is easily missed... even the guy who sold it to me said it was type S  dues the vin number starting FD3S....S FOR TYPE S!!!! HMMMM he really didnt have a clue what he was selling... anyway a year on no problems!!!

hope this helps..

Hiya
Right ive had a look, it says type rb special edition, to be honest i still have no idea what that means.......lol.... does this mean i bought the cheapest model?

I have a rb too :) To be honest theres not a whole lot between the range, big differences tended to be years, i.e 93-95, 96-98, 99+. thats why the bhp varies between 255 (<95), 265 (<98), 280 (99+)

Differences were things like 1 oil cooler or 2, air con/climate control, leather, rear seats or bins, rzs had better brakes i believe and suspension, late rb\'s had better suspension.

As long as your happy with what you\'ve got I wouldnt worry too much, prob end up changing it all anyway :D I remember I liked the 96 model because it had a better ecu.....which got changed within a year for an apexi :D With a rb you should have 2 oil coolers I believe which is a plus, especially if your interested in track days

Spookey or what :D RB should have the twin oil coolers [one either side of the rad] and ideal for a bit of fettling ;)
