hello again all

whilst getting a clutch hose leak/split sorted the guys at rotechniks spotted this leak.

it is the two o-rings on the filter neck... are these easy to replace and also are they cheap to replace... I saw on scudariaciriani site that they cost 75 cent in the states... does that mean they will cost 20 quid here as usual..

anyone done this on their FD?

best time to do it next oil change or can it be done while oil in the system?... obviously the latter sounds a bit daft...!!!

it is very easy,  i dont see them being expensive,  they are just rubber o rings which most garages should have as there are a lots kits with every different size in circulation now.  just undo the 2 10mm bolts under the filter mounting plate,  lift the filler off while still attached to the mounting plate,  replace the two o rings,  they just sandwich between the two,  bolt the lot back together,   you dont need to remove the filter as far as i remember.
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

if they are standard rubber O rings - go to your local plumbing merchant - they should have LOADS and will be about 50p each !

i needed a 10mm O ring for the top hose sender and it was 30p from our plumbing place

they even had the right one for the filler neck ( on the FC )

happy hunting - if you have NO luck , send me the sizes and will get you some :)

Hi, how did they diagnose that ?
I just replaced the oil filter housing \'O\' rings on my rex in an attempt to cure my on going oil leak saga.  They were 75 pence each from Rotechnics, and a proper bar steward to fit.. I watched my mechanic struggling!
Worse thing is it didn\'t cure the leak.  What are your symptons?
Mine gets oily around the filter base and Flicks onto the exhaust which smokes a bit from the burning oil when really hot.

it was diagnosed when under neath and afrom above when replacing the clutch hose to the slave cylinder...

they showed me that there was alot of opil leaking out onto the plates under the car and then had a quick look and said it was coming from this... though they dont seem to be simple o-rings... they seem to be shaped and about 10 mm thick....

from what I can remember and go either side of the filter neck.... am I wrong...

Trevrx

Yeah that\'s not the rubber filter-housing O rings.

I\'ll have a look tomo and see if I can see what you mean, do you have a pic of it?
I\'m guessing you might mean the banjo on the oil return pipe from the cooler.

the lemster

yeah that sounds about right... its abouto 10mmm thick and sits vertical...

I might phone rotechniks today and see if they can remember the leaky part... and see about prices

cheers for the help.

the lemster

just sppoke to rotechniks and they said that if it is the oil filter body it is 122 quid or 1.04 for the o-rings... hmmm

see how it goes and then make a decision...

I suppose to change the filter body you need to do it at oil change time anyway...

Trevrx

Hi Lemster, did you get this sorted?

If you did, what did they replace and did it cure the leak?  cheers

the lemster

I am going to see them tomorrow due to my high idle ( see thread is this section) and will ask again if they can let me know the exact part which need replacing... and maybe get the parts there and then to fit at my next oil change....

hmmm hope it aint the 122 quid neck assembly I need... bet it is.
