Hello all you classic insurance people, I would like to ask a few questions if I may regards classic insurance. This winter I am thinking of running a cheap second car, cant stand the battering my Rex takes in the winter months. If I insured my Rex on a classic policy, would it have too be a second car, could I insure the cheap runabout on the same policy. Even if it is not old enough for classic insurance. How old must my Rex be to get classic cover. If I cant insure the cheapo car on classic do I have to prove I am running and insureing the said cheapo. Do classic insurance companies insure other cars as well e.g cheap runabouts. Is it ok to have mods on the Rex and do they charge extra for mods. And finally can anyone suggest a decent classic car insurance company. My car is a third gen 93 plate by the way. Few lots of questions hope you can help with answers.....cheers Leigh.

Hi Rotorboy65,

I\'ll try and answer some of the questions....  AON will do your Rex as a classic if it is 10 years old or more, yours is so that would qualify.  Not sure on your age but I think they will only insure over 25\'s (could be slightly higher).  It has to be a policy on its own but as it\'s on classic cover, you don\'t need to use any no claims.  You can therefore insure your cheap runabout using your full no claims.  You will have to limit the mileage on the Rex to a max of 6000 with AON.  Technically you have 2 policies running at once, which is fine.  They will insure you for mods too, just for example, mine is insured with AON with an agreed value of £12000 with a bodykit, 18\'s, SS exhaust, ported engine, Apexi ECU and me being 30 with 6 points (2xsp30) and it costs me £494 fully comp on the classic policy.

Hope some of that helps, it\'s all possible, just depending on your age!

Mark.

Nice one Mark, thanks for all the info. Looks like the route I will be going down, I am (dont laugh) 40 (hay told you not to laugh ;)) so this should be good for me as well. The policy I have now is limited too 6000 miles a year so this is no problem. Will start to have a look around the Auto Trader for a bargain cheap too run car. Thanks again cheers Leigh.

ref cheap runaround, would a 1986 ish 626 Elford saloon be of interest, slightly tatty but on the road as a guy I work with is talking about getting rid soon. Don\'t know what mods Elford did but it was probably the bare min. It would also qualify for classic insurance. While I am here will try and get over to the pub and find out when the other car groups meet. One was Spitfires and the other was Citroen !!!
