Is there an igniton wire I can tap into in the engine bay somewhere? Would make it a lot easier as i\'ve located the relay in the engine bay...was thinking maybe the headlights?

Going to get my friend round with his multimeter sometime this week but if we could have a few nods in the right direction it would be a great help

ScuttleRX

scratch that, need one in the cabin now after a little re-think, is stereo going to be best bet?

ScuttleRX

Would one of the wires to the fog light be an ignition live?

FD3UK

Feed to cigarette lighter is ignition live.

ScuttleRX

ahh yes, cheers chap i\'ll use that

fro

otherwise, above the fuse box by the accelerator pedal there\'s two female spade connectors. The one on the right is IGN live

edit: it\'s unused as standard, mine\'s got a connection to the water injection in it (arrow)

ScuttleRX

cheers fro, that might be an easier one to use

no idea I\'m afraid. I just use it to flip a relay.

Think I have blown the fuse or something to the cigarette lighter, plugged a wire into both connectors on the back of it, put it on a 12v bulb, puff of smoke small clicking sound, didnt do anything after that. Cant test for sure as there was no cigarette lighter in to start with.

Cant see fuse box properly as its getting dark, cant find the bulb I nicked from torch, had a feel around fuse box where it should be, if its meant to be sticking out so you can push connector onto it then i dont have one as that whole area is flush.

Might call a car electrican in cos frankly i dont know what im doing really and im starting to get very peeved :( I\'ve got all the dash panels off/loose now so just be a case of wiring up.

Whats the proper way to test with a bulb, I was probably doing that wrong too, are you meant to ground a wire and have one off the bit your testing and touch them both to bulb, or make the bulb in a circuit off the connection your testing...

Figure I may aswell go straight off the ignition barrel, theres 2 wires coming off it, will it be ok to splice into either of them or will one of them be a no-go

It all depends on where you touched the wires on the lamp , you should touch one to the centre connection and one to the outside , if you touched both 12v and ground to the outside you\'ll have blown the fuse

I\'m not an auto sparky but I am a regular sparky so if you get stuck on any little bits give me a shout

Regarding the two wires coming off the ignition barrel , you should est them first , have you got a tester ??? if not you can get small digital meters quite cheap these days and thy do come in handy , basically test with a meter between ground and the wire , you\'ll have to test them with the ignition on and off to make sure you\'ve got a switched live or permenant live , to be honest though as long as your not pulling a lot of current I\'d come off the cig lighter , just find which is the live

Im hooked up at last! I used the connection near the fuse box, could see the bit in daylight. Brought a multi-meter but still must have been using it wrong :)

Im all set now, couple of connections to tighten and the WI is all systems go :)

Tintin

If your coming to JAE bring it with you , I\'ll show you how to use it properly :D

Glad you got it sorted though , you replaced that fuse you blew ???

no, not sure which one it is and as it was only for the cigarette light (i hope!) I dont think i\'ll bother just yet :)

I\'ll stop being lazy in a bit and read the manual :)
