Hi, Ive seen a rex that Im very interested in. I was wondering what the general consensus is to a running in period with these motors? its had a 3k rebuild at ReWorx. only thing is its literally done 0 miles.... it was delievered back to the sellers house on a transporter, he doesnt use it and its done no miles in the last month and half since he got it back. he had it running no problem yesterday when he fired it up. sounded nice and smooth, no obvious miss firing or anything. everything seemed in good order. just dont want to buy a rex thats not even been bedded in (if they need to, anything like a piston engine for this?) Id be tootling about for a 1000 miles in my first rex thats dying to be driven harder... dont think I could manage ;) :D

any opinions?

thanks

It would need running in for 1000 miles or so I would think

It would depend on what Reworx say but yes there is always a running in period

speak to geff at reworx very fair and helpfull sure he could adv also with regard to warranty if it is rebuilt

I understand it is warrentied etc had a new clutch fitted at the same time as the engine being done, all the reciepts are there and I do trust the seller (as far as you can trust any seller anyhow, seems very genuine) but Im trying to get a feel for would you buy a car thats not even run in? cant really put my foot down to check any other potentiol issues? turbos etc?

and 1 last Q. the oil pressue gauge sits on 0 at idle, it does rise if you rev it, is that right? My Reno 5 GTT (I know its not the same) sits at 2 on idle.... thought it could well be worth asking....

TBH this is the best state the engine can be in. As long as you have the documents and the warrenty is passed over when you buy the car then you are laughing. I got mine with a fresh engine. Hasn\'t had any major problems since i bought it. The first 1000 miles will have to be taken easy to bed the engine in. This will at least get you used to driving the car !

Would definately reconmend it.

Dave, the oil pressure gauges on rx7\'s tend to be about as reliable as a renault 5 gtt ;), so i wouldn\'t worry about it, they all seem a little iffy and it may even clear up with a bit of driving:) I think if it works properly it should sit at around 1bar once the oil has warmed up, which coincidently is the same as what a 5gtt should sit at, if that gauge works correctly also.

thought that might be the case :)

I was even thinking of offering you £20 for your services of checking a car over for me...lol its always good to have a 2nd opinion when all you can think of when you see these beautys is sitting and cruising in it :D checked the car over yesterday and it seemed pretty good but me being me even forgot to check little things like elecy windows working ;) seller did remind me though ;)

After the 1st 1000 miles from rebuild mine had a standard service, basically plugs, oil and filter. Not sure if this is the norm as it was done before I purchased.

Not going to be too expensive anyway.

Oil sender are unreliable but normally do flicker or something, when geff worked on my yellow car he forgot to connect it all so had no oil pressure, running my engine in. He suggested that as DS Engineering was closer get them to do it coz he couldnt be arsed, so check it first. Ask if the warentee is transferable and get it in writing, coz I wouldnt trust a word he tells me.
Better safe than sorry.
I hope he does warentee it for you and it all checks out ok, and you have many happy motoring miles in it. I personally would buy a car that is not run in if I had the paperwork, would make it a good deal.
