Hi People

I am currently saving and researching running a gen 3 rx7 as a daily driver.

I am currently Driving a Celica GT4 (nice curvy one with pop up hl) which I have modded to about 280BHP, but I am getting tired of the modding scene and have decided to get a car that doesn\'t need modding.  I drive a 20mile round trip to work every day on normal a roads averaging about 25/30 mph.  Currently the 4 gives me about 17MPG or about 250 miles to a 16gallon tank.

I love jap cars and the RX7 is the sexiest car ever to come out of japan.

I just wondered if anyone has a similar driving pattern and wondered if it would be about the same on petrol.  Is it a resonable daily driver?  I am yet to drive one so I have no idea what the ride quality is like.

thanks
paul.

I have been using mine as my daily car until recently, and petrol consumption, I would say, is about the same. Only thing is, remember to warm up the engine properly before driving off, or atleast don\'t thrash it straight away. Also, the are next to useless in the winter months, and downright lethal on the ice.

Hi ya i live in Halifax and used to drive oldham and back every day for a year in my first 3rd gen. Long as you top water up, change oil reg and get temp nice and warm before putting your foot down it was fine....

As for mileage i reckon i was getting 13-17 mpg depedning on traffic and what my right foot wanted to do....

If its local, local up and down valleys heavy traffic your looking about 10-13 mpg...

Petrol bill was far do big, but you always looked forward to drive to work......

i have a 70mile round trip everyday, until recently i was using the rx7 but found i was just earning money for Shell. i am now using my old audi diesel, which means i can save the money for knockhill etc its kind of nice only using it at the weekend, makes it even more special when you get in the drivers seat..  :)

Hi, mine has been my daily driver since I got it on the road last December.  MPG is terrible, but I don\'t smoke or drink much so that pays for petrol.  These cars are absolutely fine and safe in the winter, IF you don\'t drive like a muppet.  That includes in the snow and ice.  Any powerful RWD car can be a handful in slippery conditions, not just the Rex.  I had an old 1.3 chevette estate that was rubbish in the wet, always sliding about, and that had the same BHP as an electric toothbrush.

electric toothbrushes can be very dangerous in the wrong hands  :p

I used to have an ST-205 GT-Four modded to about 300bhp and I could get 30+mpg from that if I drove like Miss Daisy was in back. With the Rex I can get 25mpg now I have an Apexi PFC but that\'s motorway driving being friendly to the accelerator. I reckon even semi-urban I can get 18 to 20, 10 to 13 surprises me as I was getting 12 going like a nutter round the Nurburgring !!

Maybe Honda Jazz or Polo GTi in the offing...

where i live its all up & down valleys so the mpg was not good and thats in heavy traffic..... Suppose it depends on what mods your car has as well.

paulmann

no mods hopefully.
as I have learnt from the four.  modding makes car go faster to garage.

that and also it is about 15 years old now.
