Hi there,, i am thinking of an rx7 and i would like to know a few things if someone would b kind enough to help me?

I am wondering what the rx7 is like as a daily car,,, I have owned three imprezas ,,, uk turbo,,wrx,,,and sti type r,,, so i understand about the petrol department,,but as the rx7 is rear wheel drive how does it fair up in all round handling,,
Seen as though england is always wet and horrid does it not suit the rx7.s back end antics?

Also , could anyone point me in the direction of a really good light conversion kit,,, as some i have seen look worse than the originals.

Thanks

I use mine as a daily driver - like all high power rear wheel drive cars if you push them then they will slide - just be sensible.  I have had a few wobbles but ALL my fault!

They are quite a few different light convirsions around but I guess some of the companies who advertise on here can supply them (havn\'t looked myself.......yet! :D  )

Nice 1 mate,,,,How does ure rx7 fair up against scoobies on country roads etc...

where would u say the rx7s strong point is..?

rx7veilside

the rx is a different car altogether if u try and outdo a awd car then forget it..thru the twisties the awd will win every time and u will pay a visit to mr hedge..on the straight the rx comes into its own especially if u go single.they are a great car but remember rwd is totally different to fwd or awd so many people buy them and boost it round a bend and bang what happened u have to relearn how to drive a rwd car and if u want to race take it to the track on the road will end in tears

Spot on.  A couple of my mates have scoob\'s.  The one drives VERY ..... erm .... like should have been somewhere 10 mins ago! The way he takes the corners, its amazing what you can get away with.

Round a proper race track I think the FD be the quicker.  You can chuck an AWD car into the corner and come out the other end but have to be more gracefull with the 7.

But to be honest I drive like a grandaddy!!! :wiggle

i had fun chasing the scoobies on a twisty section which ended up in strange old towns right by where rotrostock will be quite weird driving through proper old school towns with such noisy cars ;) lol
Didn\'t have too much problem keeping up but it was dry (we all know nothing beets a scoob on "wet twisties" ;)) & was primarily on the straights i was able to keep the convoy. Misses was moaning about her baby feeders hurting but well i did have stiff suspension & no-one told me we were going cross country :rollin lol.
Is a very different beast to scooby but i have no plans at all to change my FD i love it, scoobies i still love but would never go back (wood as a 2nd car thou the mondeo suck s ;)) lol

to add a bit more would say at least you have some experiance of tail happy cars with the type R variety (at least if you played with DCCD properly ;)lol) but that said not quite full monty RWD it helps. Handling is awesome but will bite if you drive it like the AWD car ie power out of wet twistie corners early
Personally i wouldn\'t want to be driving the RX7 in the real bad conditions & i dont tend to mine in anything half bad now but as above i now have a cr4ppy second car as well & pays for itself in petrol & insurance is less for both cars (yay classic car insurance on the RX7) than i was paying on UK scooby so there are pros & cons.....
Erm in a rush so cant totally go into waffle mode (who said phew at the back ) but i\'ll gob shyte mode it later if i think of anything, dont be shy to ask away for anything thou?

Cheers mate,,

thanks for taking the time out to give me advice..:cool

What year rx7 do u own,, and what is the difference in the early cars to the late ones, spec ,, handling etc...

Also,, what do u prefer about the rx7 to ure scoob?

scooby_si

check out http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=394 for a model guide, basically not a massive amount of difference but got slightly better models & more power on later models......FYI though mines a 96 type R bathurst
i prefer just about everything to the scoob other than my inability to drive hard in the wet but it\'s probably just as well in order to maintain my life force...;)
Main big differences are from a shallow point of view it gets soooo much more respect & head turnin, scoob would attract young kids with the rally car looks & a few neds in their hot hatches the 7 gets everyone & they all seam to love it. Impossible to clean car without getting everyone from old bycycle riders to the local teenage poopulation to small children to women ;) to taxi drivers stopping & giving it respect & on the road you\'ll have to meet sumin silly to feel intimidated. Big difference over scoob is the top end acceleration, specially over the lower range gear boxed scoobs;), the scoob used to beat stuff to 60 then run out of puff the 7 is just scary all thru the speedo & needs serious restraint(¬ too many tussles spanking M3\'s, porkas etc) to keep a license:D lol)
If i only had the 7 & not a mundeo as well i might miss some of the practicality although it would help keep the misses spending too much with limited luggage space if i\'m being optimistic :p pmsl
No need for the thanks i usually have gob shyte mode engaged anyway & it\'s what the clubs all about my friend :god
So ask away again for anything specific i\'ll be back for more waffling anyway in all liklihood ;)
