Hi,
I took the drivers door card off to replace the snapped locking cord in my 93 type r.  It looks easy to fit to the inner locking handle itself, but I cannot figure out an easy way to get to the locking mechanism itself.  It is so far back behind the metal plate that you can only feel it, not even see it.  I tried undoing the 3 screws on the side of the door incase that released the locking mechanism enough to see what I was doing, but it didnt budge at all.  Is there a simple answer that Im missing or must I take the inner metal door card off that holds the speaker etc.?

Has anybody ever taken the metal innard door panel held on by approx 10 bolts off their Rex before (the metal panel behind the door card but in front of the window guiides)?  I cant see any other way of replacing the locking cord without getting this panel off but I dont want to do it if theres an easier way.  Any ideas guys?!?

cheers  :wave

Hi John,
I\'ll try and take a pic when I get home.  I think anyone who has attempted the same or taken the door card off before will know which panel I\'m referring too though.  I was hoping to do the job tonight so I\'ll try and get a photo as soon as I get in.
Many thanks  :)

Sorry, couldnt take a photo in the end as my cameras stopped working!  I tackled the job on the weekend and it turns out, the inner metal door card I refered to, is actually the inner portion of the outer door skin.  Its all part of the same 3D door assembly and cannot be seperated.  I ended up removing the whole locking mechanism, from the handle, all the way down to the door lock and cables etc.  It turns out, the muppets at Sextons Reading (I have dealt with them enough to conclusively label them this) constructed a \'home-made\' automatic locking mechanism including a coat hanger style hinge attached to the longer locking cord.  After 200 or so uses off the key fob, the motor pulling the make-shift wire bends the locking wire so greatly, it snaps!
