Looks like the air pump, but would have thought that it would draw air from atmosphere were that likes its drawing from induction?

Cheers gary, thats a pic of someone else engine.

Hmmmmmm....i only noticed that mine was unplugged at the bodyshop when he had the bonnet up there, and the air pump rattling i have now only came about for the first time after i had plugged that connector back together.

I think i will disconnect again and see if it stops that rattling!?.

not sure you want to be disconecting it unless the ECU \'knows\' that the air pump is not sposed to be there. Might want to get some answers from more knowledgable peeps than me though!!

Mine is disconected, but I have an RE-A ECU and its programmed as such.

Its the plug for the air pump. If it was unplugged I\'d presume the car has a midpipe fitted? Unplugging it just stops it pumping air on to the road underneath the car cause the air pipe is no longer bolted to the cat.

Without a programmable EMS you can get rough idle without the airpump.

quite often its done in japan cos the airpump bearings are knackered. removing the connector stops the elctromagnetic clutch from working

Thanks lads, just disconnected it again and it has stopped the rattling.

Must have a midpipe on it.

Cheers again,

So the rattling then must have been knackered air pump bearings. Which means that may be why it was disconnected, as opposed to having a midpipe fitted. Remember to plug it back in at MOT time though in case your cat\'s still there.
